"Search and Paste" Icons

Hi Folks,

This topic may seem the same as my recent post, "Copy All Icons Between Topics", but it is different enough. As I have posted earlier, I have a couple hundred or more icons in my library. I have about 350 topics on my map.

Here is what I am trying to do, and can't find the sorcery to pull it off. I need to perform a comprehensive search of my map (including notes, etc.) - which I know how to do - so that I can find certain words and then tag those topics with the appropriate icon but, and here's the trick, I need to apply a single icon to every one of the results that come back.

The problem I see is that the various tool panes are "mutually exclusive". I can't have the awesome Search panel open at the same time as the Index, where I apply my icons, nor can I multi-select the results of the Search.

Any wizards out there with a hidden spell to cast on this?

Hi Mike. You're certainly putting our software to the test, love it!

When you do a Power Filter (under the View/Show/Power Filter) or Power Select (Advanced/Select/Power Select), choose the Text tab in the dialog. The results should all be selected.

Add the Icon or Tag and you're done. Remove the filter if applied.

Benefits of using the filter is that it condenses the map so you can pick and choose (e.g. deselect) topics as needed. The benefit of the power select is that you'll still see everything in context.

Good luck!

And, use the magic wisely!

Hmmm... is there something I could be missing here? I added the word "email" to the text/phrase to search and selected the Notes check box. I have it clear previous filters but I am getting a lot of content showing in the resulting map that I cannot find the work email in it anywhere.

What am I missing here?

Could it be that the other contents are the parent topics which connect to the results? The Power Filter will always show you the Central Topic, Main Topics etc connected to the filter results.

The good thing about the Power Filter is that it will select the results that match the search query (notice the several blue selection boxes on the topics that match your search?), this will allow you to apply the icons to all the results at once (not including the connected Main Topics etc) easily

Apparently I did not understand how this search works. I have another post where I came back to this and have figured out how it is supposed to work. Unfortunately, the solution is a multi-step iterative (read PITA) process.. that I am going to have to perform a couple hundred times...
