Add icons to complete sets please

I have been using Mindmanager for years and just recently bought MM17. I am dismayed to see that the icon set is still so limited. I use icons quite a lot to graphically display categories so having a complete set of icons would be very helpful. Currently, there are squares with alpha numbers in red, yellow, green, etc. but NO BLUE. The blue squares use greek only? Why not both alpha and greek?

Also, it would be helpful to also have triangles, circles and diamonds added to the icon cluster.

Please consider. It can't be that hard, is it?

Hello

It is easy to add your own icons to MindManager. There are many free sets of icons on the web. If you save them in a fixed location, then you can add new icon groups to the map markers and add custom icons to them by browsing to the icon files. So there is not really any limit on what icons you can use; even if you send a map containing custom icons to someone else, they are embedded in he map so they don't need to have them installed locally.

Nick,

Thanks for your rapid reply. Can you point me to some of the free sets of icons on the web?

Thanks,
Joe

http://www.easyicon.net/language.en/ has a lot of icons. (I don't have any connection with this site). Begin by creating a download folder, e.g. My Maps/Downloaded Icons, and download some ICO files to this folder. Then in MindManager go to File > Options > Package Folders and click New. This will connect a folder of icons to MindManager so that they are available to be added to marker groups. Select "Icons" as the resource type, give the package a name, browse to your "Downloaded Icons" folder and click OK. Now in the Map Markers task pane, create a new Icon group with the + button, then right-click on the group name and click "New Icon". You should see your new package folder under the "Icon" dropdown list, and can add custom icons from there, giving them a name.

Also, some time ago Nigel Goult of Olympic alerted me to SyncFusion Metro Studio at https://www.syncfusion.com/downloads/metrostudio. This is a free icon design tool that creates customised icons from a large template set. It is very useful when you want to create a set of similar icons for a special project.

Works great Nick. Is there any way to have the new icons automatically load into new Maps or do I need to create a new icon group each time?

Hello Joe

Yes, you can add icons to the template maps used when new maps are created, then they will be in every map. You can also create a template Marker List containing your icons, that can be retrospectively applied to an existing map. This is all done from the Template Organiser in the Design tab.

To edit the default map templates, go to Design tab > Template Organiser > Map Templates and navigate to Mindjet / Blank templates / Default Map in the left hand pane. When you click "Modify", it opens the template as a map that you can edit and save again. However I recommend creating a duplicate of the default template first so that if things go wrong you can the original template back without reinstalling.

To create a new template Marker List, add the required icons to a map, then with the map still open go to Design tab > Template Organiser > Marker Lists. Click Add New Marker List > From current map and it will create a marker list that can be applied to other maps.

Hi Nick
I've just found this very helpful thread.
However I'm finding the icons that I download are too small.
What is the correct size of ICO file to use?
Thank you

Hello

MindManager will use the best icon size in the .ico file for the current zoom level. If you can it is best to use .ico files that contain 16x16, 32x32 and 64x64 images. If the file only contains a 16x16 it will look blurred at higher scaling factors.
