The help facility in MM 2012 says I can add icons to my library from external files. What form or file format must these be? I tried a GIF image I created in Visio but that doesn't work.

They need to be a specific icon format. See my blog for details and examples.

Use IcoFX to create icons for MindManager.

You may able to use other applications but I find IcoFX very easy to use.

Thanks Andrew, appreciate that. I work for a corporate that restricts users from installing applications so I was hoping that I could do it with the tools currently available to me - MS Office, Windows Paint, etc.

FWIW: I figured out how to create custom tags which is actually a better solution for what I was wanting to do. I'll post my next question as a new topic but it is about how to pass a value (e.g. tag value) to a URL in a hyperlink to drive an external lookup (in SharePoint in this case)

Neither Visio or Publisher save .ico files or mention .ico in their help.

You may able to do it with Microsoft Expression their web editor

Andrew, There might be some sites online that offer some free .ico files that you can use (e.g. http://www.iconarchive.com/).

Thanks for that feedback. Didn't see what I'm after on that site (numeric icons beyond single digits) and on reflection tags are probably a more effective solution.

What are the settings required to import custom icons into MindManager 9 for Mac? I have tried a number of .ico formats and sizes without success. Any thoughts?

Hi Nick... once I create the .ico file, I am not able to get it uploaded into the MindManager catalog. I am in the "Markers" sub-menu...and then I select the gear at the bottom of the window to activate the "Assign Markers From File..." option. A search window appears and when I locate the .ico files in my computer, they are not able to be selected. I am wondering if there is a special formatting trick that I need to use to get this to take. Any thoughts?

The command "Assign Markers from File" relates to importing a complete Map Marker set from a file with the extension ".mmas". Marker set files are created by MindManager and can be reloaded to redefine all the map markers in a map. Icons in a map marker set file are already imported into the file so do not rely on external files on disk.

To add a new icon file to MindManager, it must be added to a library folder. Go the library task pane, select one of the icon folders and right-click on the folder name or in the white space in the preview pane. The context menu contains the command "Add Icon..." which lets you select a .ico file from disk.

Using an icon in the map will automatically add it to the "General icons" group in the map markers task pane. You can rename it or drag it to another icon marker group in the map markers task pane.

Hi Nick... I tried the steps that were suggested and unfortunately my Mac version (v.9) doesn't appear to offer those options. I've attached an annotated screenshot to describe what I see with the Mac version. Any other thoughts?

My apologies - I thought it was MindManager for Windows, which is what this thread is tagged with. I should have read your earlier post more carefully. It might be better to have a different thread for this issue. Unfortunately I don't know the Mac product so cannot help :( Sorry again.

Thanks Nick... I didn't realize the thread was Windows-specific (oops). I will relocate. I appreciate your helpfulness. Thanks!
