I started a map but I want to change templates (similar to the choices that come up with File / New.  I found this post but it seemed to answer about themes and not the template itself.
Themes are not the same as the template.

It's possible to apply different themes to a template but it is not possible to change the template (and have the map move content to a new structure). There would be no way for the software to discern where you'd like to put topics. I'd recommend opening the template that you wish to use and then copy the central topic from the original map and paste it into the new map. Then, you can drag / drop content to appropriate branches in the template. Hope that helps!

Hi Todd

Every map has a theme and started from a template (which could just be the blank template).

Templates have structure, content and a Theme. It might be framework to fill in to compose a report. A template is a map.

Themes apply style (colours, fonts, topic shapes etc.) to a map. A Theme is not a map.

Maps are based on a Template which has a Theme which you can change at time.

Slightly longer explanation here from a time when Themes were called Styles.
