Autocalc crashes Mindjet 14

I have already logged this with Technical Support.

Using MindManager 14.0.345 (why is MindManager 14 not listed in the Product Version and Build list in the Technical Support form?)

I created a map Central Topic, Main Topic (the total topic) and four sub-topics for costs. I inserted the AutoCalc feature on the Main Topic with Total = Sum of Cost in currency. When I add the 3rd or 4th cost Mindjet 14 crashes.

Repeated this on the same map and it crashed again. Repeated on a fresh map and it crashed.

Is it just me?

Pity really because it was going to be part of a blog about evaluating alternative travel costs for going to Biggerplate Unplugged in Utrecht next week.

Hi Andrew,

We have seen this happen only a small number of systems and are currently investigating. I am able to do the above without experiencing any issues or crashes. I assume that you have a ticket open with our EMEA support team so they can investigate and report to our QE Team as well.

As for the build information on our TS Forms, we are awaiting a response from our web engineering team on the updates and expect this should be resolved within the coming days/week. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Tech Support asked me to repair Mindjet 14 and if this did not work, to do a complete uninstall and manually purge Windows of all Mindjet MindManager program and installation files.

Neither fixed the problem. Maps continued to crash MindManager after adding or editing a few topics with properties.

The instructions received for manually removing MindManager do not cover the Windows 8 situation. Folder names and locations are different.

The purging process removes all older versions as well! So if you have a working older version of MindManager it won't be there after this process! I renamed registry keys and folders of my working Mindjet 11 program so I could restore it manually.

The next response for Technical Support asks me to use the Windows Classic theme (I already am: just a single colour background and all the clever stuff turned off) but Classic is not an option in Windows 8.

They also suggest it maybe my Graphics card driver. Please reinstall it. Then uninstall MindManager 14 and the related components Visual C++ etc. and reinstall them.

This is far to painful.

Hello Andrew

Looking at your screen shot, you say you are working in Currency but the screen shot does not show that. Maybe this is something to do with the issue?

Hi Nick

In my first attempt to do this I did set Currency. Subsequently I didn't bother. Of course I didn't capture a screen shot of that first map. :)

Wouldn't hindsight screen shots be great?

I have just added a currency AutoCalc Main Topic. It crashed after adding values to 3 topics.

Hello All:
I do not know if this can be helpful but I solved the problem by restoring windows to a prevous point of recovery. Waiting for the new version of Gyroq for Minmanager 14 (Glad to see nick here :-)) I have kept Mind Manager 11 and Mind Manager 14 on the same machine. Can this generate conflicts betweenthe programs on specific functions? By the way now I have just Mindmanager 11 on my machine and it just works great! I feel it is not the case to keep 2 versions of the software on the same machine!!! Let me know what you think ....

I reported this to tech report a few weeks ago. Didn't spot in in the forum. Tech support provided the same procedure that they seem to have outlined to Andrew. Suggested it was a .NET issue. I've installed MJ 14 on a Fujitsu T901 after a clean install of Win 8 and the issue remains. A colleague also suffers the same issue, perhaps after every third entry into an AutoCalc field. The feature is pretty much unusable for me at the moment.

Hi eveyone. Can you try this workaround?

  • Stop the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service from Services and then in MindManager, add/edit properties.
Also, as an update, we've put forth a resolution to this issue (or what we believe to be one) in our next service release which is due out before the end of the year.

Michael,
This seemed to work for me on a Fujitsu T901 with Win 8 64 bit.

Made no difference for me. Stopped the service. Edited a property.  Crashed after changing one cell.

But after restarting MindManager I have managed to make several changes and add map parts with autocalc without a crash.  I will keep Touch parked for awhile and report back.

Win 8 64Bit on HP 2740p.

It is really annoying this bug. I have a map with many Autocalc topics and a map part for adding more. I am persevering in using it despite the crashes because its the map with all the product costs, margins and VAT for selling Mindjet products!  But there is a conflict of interests in doing this. Please fix ASAP.

I have a similar dilemma. I am advocating rolling-out Mindjet to 5000 students, teachers, and support administrators. I'm starting to feel a bit sheepish.

What I find weird is having stopped the TabletInputService is my touch screen continues to operate!

This also seems to cause a problem with Outlook Mail topics when you open and close the details. My PC has just been rebooted and MindManager crashed after a few open and close of the mail details.  Stopping the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service again.

The application will crash on my system just when populating the properties. I don't have any autocalc functions set-up in the map at this point. I don't have pen mode selected as I do not have a touch screen. It happens quite frequently; very annoying.

Well - I'm running the latest version and it still crashes and that is after following suggestions in response to support request - including a full clean re-install. Looks like the release is unstable.
