Bullet point as an option for topic shape

Currently we have no-line, line or outlined boxes as topic shapes. A bullet point option would enable a topic with tree layout subtopics to be presented as a slide. A couple of bullet point styles would be even better.

You can do this albeit in a clunky way by creating an empty paragraph with a bullet point in Word and copying and pasting this into a topic in MM. You can then save this as a map part for reuse, but first you need to insert a space after the bullet point, highlight this (but not the bullet) and change the font from Symbol to Arial or whatever text font you want.

You can also change the size of the bullet point and of the text font independently of each other and of course remove topic lines. I agree though that it would be great to have a "proper" bullet point option, though I think you would also need a "proper" bullet point layout to go with it as the tree layout doesn't look quite right.

Thanks Alex. Yes, a bullet point symbol in the text itself does not give the same effect, as multi-line text is not indented. I have also used an icon, but this creates an unwanted item in the index. Icons and images are not part of topic style, so manual processing is needed on each topic.

Ah yes, I didn't try multi-line text.

You can fudge it using a topic containing the bullet point only with a callout attached containing multi-line text that will then appear indented - once you position the callout properly. It's harder to save this as a single map part as it doesn't seem to retain the proper position of the callout, but if you save a topic with a set of subtopics set up with callouts as a single map part the callouts seem to retain their position.

I like your suggestion though of an image of a bullet point. While this is no substitute for an actual bullet point style, the resulting topic at least can be saved easily as a map part.

Doh. Facepalm moment. Another way to approach this would be to add bullet points as a topic numbering style.

Interesting - how do you add or edit topic numbering styles?

You can't - it would still need to be an enhancement in the base product, but perhaps more intuitive than a topic shape.
