Can I make sub-topic on both sides of a floating topic?

I have a series of topics which each have two "sides". I want to be able to move sub-topics to attach to either the left or the right side of a floating topic (like a central topic). Is there a way to do this?
Thanks!

I just tried and found no standard way to do that in MM15

Maybe the MAP addin can do it for you

Another solution could be to use the orgchart design. It allows you to have a left and right subtopic

Select the floating topic
Go to layout on the design tab and when you click the twistie you see orgchart
If you do that again on the same floating topic , you have more options

Ary's suggestion gives me another idea.

If you format the floating topic as he suggests to have the orgchart layout you can attach a callout on each side (for some reason this works best with the orgchart layout).

Callouts, unlike subtopics, can be moved around so it is easy to place one on each side of a floating topic with orgchart . You can also format them so that to some extent at least they look like "normal" subtopics and you can also attach sub-subtopics to them - though this is where things get a little hairy.

If the floating topic has been given the orgchart layout the callouts will default to connecting subtopics only on the opposite side to where the connection to the floating topic is. If however you want the subtopics to appear below each callout you will have to also give the callouts the orgchart layout - and if you haven't added text to them when you do this they will change shape and announce themselves as orgchart topics.

The result should look something like this but of course you can change the text and formatting after sorting out the layout for each callout:

Have you adjusted the layout for the floating topic? You can select Map layout and it'll allow subtopics on the left and the right.

Indeed you can Michael and if that's all you want to do you end up with this:

However if you want to add sub-subtopics below the subtopics things get a bit messy, as shown in the following example - and to do this you still have to format the subtopics with an orgchart layout. In addition there is no way to add a subtopic below the central floating topic (unless you use a callout):

- and therefore as far as I can tell the only way to "daisy-chain" subtopics horizontally at the same level AND  have sub-subtopics appear underneath each subtopic is to use the method I described earlier of essentially formatting the floating topic as an orghart topics and adding callouts on each side also formatted as orgchart topics. This will give you something like this:
