Can anyone explain the new mindjet goings on for me?

1) Is the new mindmanager a new version?
1a) if so, is there a place we can see the new features?

2) do we still have mindjet connect/vision/action?

3)what has happened to the website?
3a) the community forum seems impossible to get to without a permalink to an old topic
3b) there isn't much detail on product features?

3) has Mindjet really gone back to the old pricing model?

4) anything else changed recently we might like to know about?

Many thanks

John

1) Is the new mindmanager a new version?

The new MindManager includes the most recent versions of Mindjet for Windows, v11, and Mindjet for Mac (v10). So, if you have MindManager 2012 for Windows, for example, the answer is yes, the new MindManager includes new Windows desktop features, as well as including Mindjet for Mac.

1a) if so, is there a place we can see the new features?

Yes, halfway through the page at http://www.mindjet.com/products/mindm... is a section called “Why Upgrade” that provides an overview of the newer features in MindManager (these are all features of Mindjet for Windows v11). There’s also a link to a complete feature list (http://www.mindjet.com/products/mindm...). We will be making a 30-day trial of MindManager available very soon, so you’ll be able to explore all the features.

2) do we still have mindjet connect?

While it is no longer available we have two offerings that include capabilities offered in Mindjet Connect. Mindjet ProjectDirector is designed for teams of people working together and includes cloud-based mapping (including co-editing), file sharing & document management, and team task management. Mindjet ProjectDirector is described here: http://www.mindjet.com/products/proje.... For MindManager users who want expanded personal productivity, an individual version of the Mindjet web app is available and is called MindManager PLUS. It offers cloud-based mapping, individual file storage, individual task management and mobile access. You can read more about MindManager PLUS here: http://www.mindjet.com/products/mindm....

3)what has happened to the website

It’s been updated to improve navigation and information access.

3a) the community forum seems impossible to get to without a permalink to an old topic

You can access the community directly by going to: https://community.mindjet.com/mindjet

3b) there isn't much detailon product features?

What details are you looking for? If you mean MindManager features, you’ll find what you need here (http://www.mindjet.com/products/mindm...).

4) has Mindjet really gone back to the old pricing model?

MindManager is available as a perpetual license for $349 (new) and $179 (upgrade) which now includes MindManager Windows and Mac desktop software.

5) anything else changed recently we might like to know about?

We make every effort to update the website and blog frequently with new information, so those are the best sources for keeping current on Mindjet. The big news in the past couple of weeks has been about Mindjet ProjectDirector. We’re very excited about the ways that ProjectDirector can help teams work more effectively to plan and manage projects.

Thanks Brittney,

I guess this has happened over the last couple days (?) and is still being rolled out. I'd like to say I'm pleased with the new pricing in one sense, I think the offer of both perpetual and subscription (via plus) is good.I think the new price system is a good development.

It's a shame to lose the freemium model of connect, but to be fair I don't actually use it anymore for various reasons. Will the ipad app still be available for perpetual licence customers? I now use that in conjunction with dropbox instead.

If you don't know the community URL, it's real hard to get to it, as on the main homepage the ideas links don't work, and the Community links link back to the homepage. (I've always felt the MJ website was designed by sales people and I don't think is easy to navigate or has user centred information on it. Although i do like the style of the community boards. At the moment it feels rushed i'm afraid...)

There are 3 MM features I'm really hoping for and i wonder if any is now possible in this version of a forthcoming release:
  • Ability to set the duration of a task without specifying start and end times

  • A timeline view (as well as a Gantt view) - Is it possible to create your own views programmatically?

  • Ability to have tasks synced with outlook or trello (or other free services) so they get updated on the map once they've been updated in the task management system

Anyhooo... Thanks again for the response Brittney, overall I like the new direction, And I should just add that I received absolutely top notch service in the past from Mindjet when i needed it. Off now to update my to do list now. which is on a MM mindmap :-)

John.

John,

Yes - Mindjet have relented and now offer both perpetual and subscription versions of Mindjet/MindManager. While the use of different names is confusing, these appear to be the same product.

I'd just like to comment on the three MM features you wanted:

"Ability to set the duration of a task without specifying start and end times"

This actually used to be in MM and unfortunately was removed in version 9. I think this was collateral damage resulting from the integration of JCV Gantt with MM; the Gantt view required a rigid relationship between start date, duration and end date.

"A timeline view (as well as a Gantt view) - Is it possible to create your own views programmatically?"

Yes - Id love this too and I've been asking for years! At least one competing mind mapping product has this feature.

"Ability to have tasks synced with outlook or trello (or other free services) so they get updated on the map once they've been updated in the task management system"

I don't know anything about Trello but the current Outlook integration works fine for me, though there are a few minor improvements I could suggest.
