Checkbox in Notes

Hi guys,

I'm rather new to mindmanager, so maybe I just haven't found the correct way to do this... But I am desperately missing a checkbox in "Topic Notes".

Background is that i sometimes have some small subtasks, that i want to assign to a Topic like "fix this" or "do that". I can use a bullet list or a table for them of course, but it would be much more practical to have a checkbox (like e.g. in OneNote) which can be checked when the subtask is done.

I think its not a big thing, but maybe really helpfull?

Best regards,
Michael

Just a suggestion... If you have small subtasks, why not create subtopics for those with task info etc. This is already available in MM vs 15 (although MM2017 offers even more ;-)

With that approach you create a lot of flexibilty and insight and.... save lots of time.

Ary's suggestion to treat these small sub tasks as subtopics rather than notes and assign them task information is the best way to go. In fact the only task information you really need to assign them is a 0% complete Progress icon which you can then click to change to a 100% complete tick when they are done.

If however you want to reserve the Progress icon for major tasks only (for example, if you don't want to clutter up the list of tasks in the marker index with these sub tasks or because you don't want to affect task roll-up), then treat them as subtopics but use a flag or another specific icon unrelated to tasks to mark them as complete instead of the Progress icon.

This is a good suggestion and MM does it well on task, however doesn't do well on saving space in the canvas. My biggest complain with MM is than when a map grows large it becomes cumbersome because it grows vertically instead of horizontally. They don't allow flexibility and control over branches so for large maps it start to really become difficult to handle. Sometimes and for different circumstances you need a cleaner map and one way is to keep subtaks within the notes and the idea of checkboxes is not that bad and maybe very easy to implement to give at least this option to users.

I agree that the ability to use checkboxes in notes would be a good idea. However if space is an issue you could just collapse the branches containing subtasks to their parent tasks. They would be just as accessible by expanding individual branches to review the subtasks as they would be by clicking on the notes icon to see any tasks there.

In my opinion you should be able to place all that you want in the notes, Mindjet could allow for that in future releases.
But if you want a solution for your "fix this" or "do that" tasks there are better options.

The bad thing about checkboxes in Notes is that you have to open your notes to see it.
And there is no way of achieving followup actions as for instance with export to Trello via Zapier (mm2017)
And you can even -roll-up- your task status on a higher level.

And there are many options to let your maps grow in any other direction you want so the vertical space issue should be non-existent.

One extra remark:
You can always use the Focus on Topic Function or Exand to the desired level of detail.

(You find both under =>View => Detail)

Still is a need/want option in mindjet but they resist to allow manual layouts like most top competitors. I ha ve been using mindjet for many years now and I recognize other features but space management is not one of them. If you refer of other options like the new timeline for example, this one does not allow to drag branches away or closer to the previous topic and that becomes very challenging to accommodate information in one page. This affect the final result mostly when you want to share with other people. I mean I have to complement with other tools when I need to present more visuals maps and I think this is one of the biggest limitations with mindjet at least from my experience. . One thing I also recognize in the other hand is the new HTML5 export option. I just hope they allow to use my on branding instead of the mindjet logo. One thing for the other I Guess. I still have hope with the new COrel management they start to think outside the box and explore new and better features to allow better visualization and enhance sharing capabilities.

There is one fairly clunky workaround - copy the special character for a tick, for example the one in Windings, from either a word processor or using the Character Map feature in the MAP add-in and then paste this at the start of the line for each completed subtask in the topic notes. You can also copy the icon image of a tick from an external program and use this instead.

Unfortunately you can't search for these within MM - nor can you find and replace a word, for example "100%", with either a character or an icon as I had hoped to do. In fact it doesn't appear that you can search or use find/replace with special characters or symbols at all.
