Connect Vision and Action not quite 'seamless' as stated ... yet

Congratulations on the improvements and integration between Vision and Action. However, in my opinion there is a key disconnect that requires joining up between these two.

Let's say I define a meeting action in a map in Vision, and send it to Connect Action, this works fine with a nice hyperlink - great! However, if I then update the 'Progress' to say 50% in Action, the progress of my original map topic in Vision does not update. I have been told that this will happen, but it seems a little misleading to claim that this now offers 'seamless collaboration in the cloud' between the two products. Nearly, but not quite there yet - it will be SO good when this works - just imagine looking at your meeting map and seeing all the Action progress updated automatically - yay!

I love the product but I had high hopes this would be sorted when all the emails started flying about the 'Merge' - when will this feature be added?

We agree and as you noted we are currently working to tighten up this critical piece of the user experience around creating, managing and viewing tasks throought connect so that no matter where you are looking at or updating your data it is true, accurate and in synch.

Can you tell us more about what data elements of a Task are most critical to have be 100% consistent throughout Connect and to keep in synch. Your feedback will help ensure that we focus on what matters and get that to you ASAP.

Thanks

OK, the following need to be synced both ways:

- Title (ASAP)
- Progress (ASAP)
- Due date
- Start date (is this in Connect Action? I can't login to Connect at the moment so I can't check)

The following need to influence the other system but only need to be synced in one direction:

- Priority (used to influence Action priority weighting - Vision>Action only)
- Start date (used to influence Action priority weighting - Vision>Action only)

The only other one to sync is Resources. This is an awkward one as identical resources need to exist in both Action and Vision to sync them, I have other ideas about this and think it is implementable:

- Resources (sync first Vision resource to Action Assignee, others to Action Followers)

Two additions:

1. The ability to generate an action in Connect Action, and then send it to a specified map (with hyperlink inserted at both ends) in Connect Vision.

2. Blocking - This could link to either:
a) the hierarchy of tasks in maps (difficult to synchronise this rather than just provide the ability to import a blocking hierarchy), or
b) dependency relationship arrows between tasks in a map.
This is clearly a more challenging feature, but a solution is important to make Action as good as it can be.

Hey Gary, We're working on a lot of important integration features..and they're coming soon, but i'm interested in your needs for #1. Would love to hear more and why this is important to you.

When I'm working with a colleague, often we work from a map and send to Action, if we're planning. However, recently we have been discussing progress and have ended up in Action, looking at tasks and adding new ones as they come to mind. Without a link back to Vision, we end up with a divergence between the plan and actions - unless we have some method of putting actions back into the plan.

The blocking request is more a reduction in time needed to define all the blocking relationships, which are not visual, by using existing map tools, which are visual, to define them. I have admitted this is harder to implement, but you will agree that blocking is not easy to define for someone with visual tendencies.

And I had previously added a request below for further Google Calendar integration. For example, if I update a Connect Action task in Google Calendar with a new time, I need that to be reflected in Action and Vision appropriately. Possible? I don't know.

Great to hear Todd.

This is very much in line with how we intend to approach this.

Stay tuned, these elements should start to be unified in the coming months !

Good news - I hope it's a quick coming months, rather than a slow coming months ;)

The other thing that is fundamental going forward is the integration with Google Calendar. For example, if I update a Connect Action task in Google Calendar with a new time, I need that to be reflected in Action and Vision appropriately.

Do we have an update when Connect Action will be synchronised as per this thread - stay tuned seems to be the stock answer in these communities - I would love to tell my customers that, but I would probably lose the contract pretty quick.
So can you provide what date (month if not) are you planning on going live with this please?
The inefficiency of going back and forth between the mindmaps and action is starting to wear thin - the core reason I use Mindjet is this ability to go top down and then generate the day to day task lists. Without that, I might as well use other mindmapping software that is cheaper and more reliable.

Ben - so how is this coming? You said "these elements should start to be unified in the coming months" three months ago.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for keeping us honest. We are listening. I am not sure how it is where you work, but things in software come up that hinder your well intentioned plans.

Right now my team is focused on new Android and iOS apps. Very useful to all our users but it is taking longer than expected.

Other teams here are digging in to improving our architecture so that our different apps are better able to pass data back and forth in a secure and stable way. Again, important stuff that unfortunately has jumped the queue infront of "task syncing."

Thanks for your understanding.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll try to be short and to the point.

Here’s the deal: If you want to continue having credibility about offering an integrated solution, you simply MUST get the tasks to sync between Vision and Action.

I know that I am likely not the only one that will not be able to use Action until this is complete. If you’re not making this a priority, you need to update your marketing copy to remove references to syncing tasks or anything like “Keep teams in sync” unless it’s mentioned only in the Action section of the copy (right now it’s listed at the top, implying it’s across both Vision and Action).

I was really hoping that this was about to become a reality because I do both project planning and management in MM2012 and would love to be able to push it to my team using Action AND have updates visible in MM2012. My alternative is using SharePoint in Office365, but unfortunately Mindjet’s decision to not support Office365 (how could you NOT?), precludes task syncing via SharePoint task lists as well. Considering that MM2012 is my favorite software application, these two limitations are extremely disappointing.

Do you have an updated ETA on true task syncing in Connect?

Ahh, I didn't realize you were a Mindmanager user! Starting this fall the newest version of Mindmanager will have two way "task sync" with Action. Not every piece of meta data will be included in the sync but it will be a good start.

I can't give you an ETA on when Connect will have this, however.

Thanks for using our software and for your patience.

Thanks for the updates on this, as I am trying to demonstrate the effectiveness of the tool through Vision and Action, but they were quite disappointed in the lack of the sync in the task data. The mind maps are enough to sell the product, but the sync would certainly make it a must have.
