Design -> Align not working

Align topics only works on the first level of a map.  I have right growth map (auto) and cannot align any topics beyond the first level.  Select two (or more) and the align buttons are grayed out.  Very frustrating.

Ho Bors,

The Align feature only works with Topics at the Main Topic level. Beyond this the topic positioning and size can only be changed through the Format Topic function and then only in relation to size and spacing.

So it is not a case of the Align function not working, it just only applies to Main Topics which I would guess is as designed.

Hope this helps

That is my definition of not working.  Being able to align only the first level is catastrophic for a visual organization tool.  When a map gets to the hundreds of topics stage, it gets too busy and needs alignment to reduce visual clutter to aid navigation.

Will likely have to change to a different tool, an expensive waste.

The online documentation says otherwise:

Home  > Mapping with Mindjet MindManager  > Modifying Map and Topics  > Align topics

Align topics

You can align two or more topics with each other.

  1. Select two or more topics

  2. On the Format tab, in the Layout group, click the Align Topics arrow.

  1. Select how you want the topics aligned on the map.

Enable the Snap to grid option to keep objects aligned with a grid.

You found it. Well done.
For the rest of us....

In the version 14.2.321 it is still a bit hidden
Goto Design Tab
Select the subtopics you wish to edit/format
Click on litle triangle below align topics... select align image => More Options
Click Subtopics layout and play around with it to get the desired layout.

Succes

It seems that Mindmanager only aligns the first level of topics; I working on map and I need to align deeper levels, but it's not possible.

This post is about MIndManager for Windows. If you are using MindManager for MAC it behaves different, for obvious reasons

Carsten, Topic Alignment functions are found in the Format menu on the Mac as there is no Design Tab in the Mac version (see screenshot below)

As an update to this topic I thought I would mention that there is a partial solution to this problem available in MAP for MindManager. The Fixed Topic Width function enables you to create aligned Topics and give the impression of tabular data in columns.

The example below shows the before and after of this:

Before

After

The 1.7 release of MAP will be available next week and includes an improvement update to Fixed Topic Width enabling much finer control.

There are another 29 functions in the MAP and more on the way so why not try a 14 day trial.

MAP is also included with all online purchases of MindManager (upgrades and new licenses) through Mindjet's online stores until April 15th.

Regards

Nigel

Have you read the Help for MindManager for MAC? You may find which functions are available and where you may need to find another solution.

Carsten, Fixed Width is an added functionality which is available through an add-in which is only available for MindManager for Windows.

Nigel, this is the output I was looking for - all the topics aligned, not only the first level. Thank you.
