Doesn't Mindjet Connect make Dropbox redundant?

What's the point of using Dropbox when you have a Connect account? What does Dropbox do that Connect doesn't? Also, while I've been able to export from my android phone to Dropbox and upload maps from my computer to Dropbox, I can't access the files uploaded from my computer on my phone. When I first open Mindjet on my phone there are 3 buttons to select where to look for files - Device, Dropbox and Connect. WHen I select Dropbox I see the little "working/in progress" wheel icon but nothing ever happens - it just remains in progress and never completes the action (I've left it going for about 15 minutes to see if it's just slow.)

Good question--from our perspective, the answer is Yes! But we have many users on both iOS and Android who use Dropbox, and plenty of prospective users as well who have Dropbox or another cloud storage solution, and it made more sense to try and be inclusive as we can practically be, and work to ensure that over time people see a greater advantage and utility to using Connect.

Were you ever able to access your Dropbox account within MJ4A? We have thus bar been unable to reproduce this issue in house, although enough users have reported it for us to know it's real. It would be great to know your device and Android version #, as well as whether you're connected to wifi or 3g (or not at all) when you encounter the problem. Thanks.

Still no. Also, see my (new) response in that thread - Dropbox is having issues with Mindjet. Could be why you haven't been able to sort it out. Given that it's unnecessary. I'm simply going to fire Dropbox.

I am having trouble syncing recently edited files with Connect - the app help says that should be automatic, but Connect still shows the older version of a map I edited about an hour or two ago. Manual syncing does nothing. Clicking Mindjet Connect will open the phone's browser and take me to a front page (telling me all about Connect and asking if I'd like to sign up for an aaccount) but offers no log-in to my account - I can't actually see my stuff. Vision isn't necessary since everything there is on my phone, but logging in to Action would be very useful.

I'm curious about some of the issues you bring up re: Connect:

1) Are you syncing over wifi only?
2) Are you saying you'd like to have a mobile version of Action for Android?

as to 1), when you close the map and return to the file view, you should see that map being synched to Connect; while there may be a lag of a few minutes here and there, depending on connectivity strength, there certainly shouldn't be a window of an hour or 2, unless connectivity was lost altogether at the time of the change and never restored

as to 2) Stay tuned! Technically, today you can sign in to Connect on the tablet or phone browser, but it's not optimized for that, and would be of limited use, I think.

1) no, the wifi only setting is off since I often use MJ on the bus (a little over an hour's commute each way. . .) I'm not seeing it sync when I close the map - I just tested with 2 maps (one Freemind format, the other Mindjet just in case the format was the problem) - same results. Selecting Sync now in the file view, whether looking at files on the device or on Connect says "performing manual sync" but the files on Connect are not updated. Connectivity has been constant all day.

2) that would be good. I had hoped to simply log in via my phone browser to the same pages I log into via my laptop browser, but can't find any way to get there from the the front page that the phone browser opens.

ok, thx--we'll take a look at that.

if you type 'connect.mindjet.com' into your URL field, it should give you the link to the login page. As I said, it's not optimized for mobile, but you can see if it helps you at all.

Thanks - I'll give it a try. Given the size of my phone screen it's not something I would spend a lot of time working in, but it would be handy to be able to simply add a task when I think of it (since if I don't I'm sure to forget about it by the time I can fire up my laptop) or check something off as completed.

We do not agree that Dropbox is redundant . Dropbox has 50 million users and many MindManager users use Dropbox exclusively for map and file saving. That is why MODi developed an add-in that provides full Mindjet/ Dropbox integration for the desktop MindManager 2012 / Mindjet 11. Create and upload your maps linked to files saved in Dropbox ad then simply open your maps using mobile apps .
