Dropbox for iPad Error - "Cannot create map or folder in this folder"

I have been using Mindjet for iPad for awhile. Recently, however I am unable to create a new mindmap in a Dropbox folder. The error I get says "Cannot create map or folder in this folder."

- I **am*** successfully connected to my dropbox account. I can browse and open Mindjet files saved on Dropbox with the iPad.

- I noticed that when I reauthorized the connection to dropbox through mMndjet, Dropbox asked if the app "Mymind" from publisher "Another View" could access Dropbox (!?!). Secondary research suggests that Mindjet bought "Another View" because their website says: **Thank you for visiting myMind. Future products based on the myMind core technology are now available at Mindjet under the names of Mindjet iPhone and Mindjet iPad** Does the current build of Mindjet for iPad accidentally try to use old credentials w/r/t Dropbox?

- Additionally, since I was forced save my file on the iPad - how do it export in a corruption-free .mmap form?

Hi Rush. Could you give me a step-by-step account of what you are doing to save the map to Dropbox? It would also be helpful if you could provide a screen shot of the error message that you are receiving. Thank you so much! Any additional information that you might have would be useful.

Thanks Brittney. Will the "fix" be in the form of a Mindmap app update, Dropbox app update, or a "behind the scenes" fix at Dropbox? In other words, how will I know that it has been repaired.

Could you try to select a folder within your Dropbox account and then save it within that folder? Once you have had a chance to do this, please let me know what happens. Thank you!

Hi Brittney -

I don't understand how your request is different than what I demonstrated in the video. For example, in the video I tried to save a new map under the Dropbox --> Mindjet (that is, a folder within Dropbox), and I got the error (and I still get the same error tonight).

If you intended for me to try something different, please let me know.

I have had the same problem. I think this is the first time I have used the iPad app since the icon changed (so I have to guess that was when the back end structure changed). I used to be able to create/save/alter files in my DropBox account (and have a MindJet folder specifically for this).
Today I opened the app and had to reconnect to DropBox.
It opened DropBox to confirm that I wanted to give it permission to connect.
I can see all my folders and go in to each and see the files there.
But when I went to create a new map, it would not let me save in any folder. Not even public. It gave the same "Cannot create.." message.

Has there been any resolution for this? Saving maps only locally on the iPad makes having it at all much less useful.

Thank you all for your patience. We have been trying to reproduce this issue in house and have had no luck. Are all of you using the latest version of the Mindjet for iPhone/iPad application? Please let me know as this could be a reason as to why you are experiencing issues. Thank you!

If you'd like to schedule a webconference, I can host a live screen share with you and your engineering team to demonstrate/see/try things.

Just wanted to update this thread--Rush was good enough to share his screen, and we found the issue--our last update contained some changes required by changes in the Dropbox API, and this introduced the bug in question.

The good news is that there's a workaround/hack: if you want to create a map in your Dropbox account, launch an existing map within your Dropbox account, close it, then create a new map.You will then be able to save.

The better news is that on Monday we are releasing an update that fixes the issue altogether, along with some other enhancements.

Hi. Just downloaded 3.1 and I'm getting the same error (Cannot create folder or file...).

What appears to be different this time is that the Location field now does show the intended path. This was not the case on Friday.

...or maybe it is the same problem as last week:

Well, that's disappointing to say the least. I now see what the issue is--the app presupposes that you select your account FIRST--that is, instead of engaging the Create flow via the '+' button first, you would first enter into your desired account (Mindjet, Dropbox, or Box) by tapping on the account under 'Cloud Storage'. In this flow, you are already in the target account, and when you create a map, it will save correctly.

The bug you are seeing comes when you select 'Create' first, and then select a target. The 'use this folder' button is not working correctly in this flow.

I will log this, but for the time being if you do this:

• in Files Nav top level, tap on Dropbox account
• in subsequent screen, you should see 'Dropbox Files' and the Dropbox iconin the header at the top of the file navigation pane
• now select Create

my tests shows that this will work. Thanks for your persistence, Rush.

Also, note that this bug does not occur when you select 'Local' as your location

Just to add to this thread. Today I downloaded version 3.1 of the MindJet for iPad app and this issue .with Dropbox integration still occurs. The described work around does work however.

Any word on the update? I'm a power mindjet for iPad user and this is getting so I can't use it!

Hi Kris--

We are hoping to submit the update in the next couple of days, but in the meantime, the workaround I described above will work:

• in Files Nav top level, tap on Dropbox (or Box, or MJ) account
• in subsequent screen, you should see 'Dropbox Files' and the Dropbox icon in the header at the top of the file navigation pane
• now select Create

Basically, so long as you select the Cloud storage account, and are actually within the account directory for it when you engage the Create function, it will work. The problem comes when you engage Create at the first screen of the file navigation system. Thanks for your patience.

I've basically stopped using the app until this is fixed. The steps above didn't work for me but if I open a dropbox map, it will then let me create a map in the same fold.

The fix is in! (so to speak), we're hoping to submit soon. I'm surprised the workaround didn't take for you, but please hold on for a bit, hopefully the update will do the trick. Thanks.

Andy - can you give us something more than "soon"? Should I expect a month - six months?

The most specific I can get is definitely less than a month--the problem with announcing any hard date is that the AppStore sometimes takes almost 2 business weeks to turn a submission around. Hope that helps.
