Enhance Power Filter with complex queries

Case: Training materials that include Exercises for multiple teams (Training, Support, Sales Engineering). I want to tag each Exercise with ALL the teams that might use it.

Now I want to create a tailored view for each team. In other words, use the filter to include the Exercises that the Support team needs, but not the ones for Training and Sales Engineering. It involves multiple AND/OR statements in the query.

The saved query doesn't seem to be an editable item, like templates or styles. It would be nice to be able

Hello Lori

I think there might be a problem either with the way that the Power Filter is working, or in my understanding of it. I could not see any difference in behaviour of the filter when selecting "All markers" or "Any marker", when selecting combinations of with tag markers within the same (non mutually exclusive) marker group.

However, you can define a working "AND" filter by defining each tag marker in its own group, as the above options do appear to work at the marker group level. I created three topics (Exercise 1, 2, and 3) and three tag marker groups (Training, Support and Sales), each with a single tag marker. By assigning the tags to topics, I could then create filters to show specific combinations by selecting the required groups in the Power Filter dialogue and checking "All markers" to force them to be ANDed together. if the "All markers" option is checked and is working, there should be no need for "AND NOT x..." in the filter, as it will be implicit.

The way to edit an existing query is to load it, then modify it in the Power Filter dialogue and save it as the same name again. The "Manage Saved Queries" dialogue only allows you to rename or delete them.

IMHO, "queries" is not a very clear name as it does imply more processing logic than they possess. "Filters" would be a better name.

Hello Nick,

I'm afraid, there is a bug (still in 16.1.193): Filtering on A and B markers, with ALL option brings up all three branches, which is wrong.

@Lori: Tx for having brought this upfront.

Detlef
