export MindMap to PowerPoint as PowerPoint Objects

The documentation says that you can export MindMap to slides as PowerPoint Objects, not just as bullet points. This worked on previous versions. The feature is not present on the current version even though the documentation still includes the claim and instructions. Can this feature be restored as per the documentation?

Yes you are correct that the help still shows the option.
Mindjet developers should have corrected that.

However it was already removed from the functionality in previous versions MM2018 and MM2017.

Have you skipped some versions?

And just to understand your request better.... What are the benefits of exporting as powerporint Objects?

I have not skipped versions; I noticed the change a couple of years ago, but tolerated it. The advantage I saw was in use of the "Org Chart" layout that I used to show topics in categories.  It was possible to export the objects as org charts into PowerPoint. These ppts had to be edited for nicer appearance, but the initial export step saved time. In my opinion, such time saving features are one of the important value drivers for productivity software. Thanks for your comments and interest.

Hi Ken,

The Export as PowerPoint Objects option was removed from MindManager in version 2017+. Please accept our apologies for the inaccuracies in the Help Guide. I will get this corrected.

Best,
-Marian

I think this is also presented as an option in the help file for MM2018.

I can see why you might want to do this, even if the default objects in PowerPoint are fairly ugly, and I don't understand the logic behind dropping this feature.

However, as you've probably discovered, there are a couple of work-arounds. You can export the map as bullet points to PowerPoint, highlight the text then apply the appropriate SmartArt graphic which will convert the text into PowerPoint objects. The problem with this approach is that PowerPoint defaults to making the central topic the slide title, when presumably you want it to be part of the set of objects.

You may be able to control this via a PowerPoint template but I haven't tried this. Another alternative is to export from MindManager to Word then copy the text from the Word document and paste onto a blank PowerPoint slide. You can apply the SmartArt graphic and the text including the central topic will be converted into PowerPoint objects.

The PowerPoint functionality in MM is really poor in my opinion.  To drop functionality altogether, leaving only the most basic options, was very poor behaviour. It's one of the main reasons I've been unable to persuade my organisation to buy into MM. We're sticking with MindMeister, as the collab and export functions are actually good. Such a shame, as I much prefer using MM personally.

Hi All,

We are looking at enhancing the PowerPoint Export in future versions of MindManager.

Other than the request to reimplement support for PowerPoint Objects, what other enhancements would you like to see with this export?

Thanks,
 Marian

Thanks Marian. It would be great if, as with export to Word, it was possible to include icons or images, as well as to create PPT objects. MM provides great functionality to create a good-looking map, so it would help a lot to be able to preserve more of that at export. Thanks

The org chart option was one of the most useful ones to export into PowerPoint. However the other viewing options would also be helpful, especially if the linkages between objects could be preserved, as this makes editing the resulting PowerPoint slides easier. Thanks, Ken

I'm hesitant to suggest things already included in the excellent MAP add-in for MindManager, but consideration should be given to negotiating with Olympic Limited to acquire MAP's ability to export images of MM slides as either PowerPoint slides or images in a Word document. This really should be a core feature of MM's export facility, along with the ability to export slide content as PowerPoint Objects.

The facility to export slides as images could be expanded to give users the choice of either medium or high-res image export to either PP or Word, and in the case of PowerPoint the option to select whether the exported MM slide image is titled or covers the whole slide without a title.

In both choices there could be an option to include or not include topic notes as speaker notes, and the "titled" option could also include two other sub-options: leave the title blank, or use the topic text of the parent topic in the slide as the default PP slide title text.
