I would like to use global or common tags across different maps. Is there any way to do this. I do not want to have to re-enter the tags that I use in my research. Any help gratefully received.

You can save the Marker List for a map using Design > Template Organizer > Marker Lists. Then you can apply this saved Marker Lists to other maps (using the Template. Organizer screen)

Is this something which you can use?

Mathieu's solution is more elegant, but another way to do this on an ad hoc basis is to simply create a dummy topic and attach all the common tags you want to use globally to this topic.

Save this topic with the attached tags as a map part. When you want to create a new map go to Map Parts and click on the dummy topic to insert it into the map; the tags should then appear under General Tags in the Marker pane. Once this occurs you should be able to delete the dummy topic but the tags should remain in the Marker pane.

The downside of this approach is that if you have set up a new tag group in the initial map this won't appear in the new maps. Instead you may have to re-establish the new group but you can then drag the global tags from General Tags into the new tag group.
