Hello, I have some huge MAP slowing down the response time. How can I effectively reduce their size ? (see details)

I have already cleaned as much as I can, putting a lot of hyperlink to an archive MAP  (actually a copy of the original one before cleaning). The result is disappointing. I went dowm by less than 10%  (74 MB from 82 MB) . Is this possible to see what really consume the most space and / or affect the most the response time ?

Thank you in advance for your advices.

There are a couple of ways you can approach this...

File size:
  • Are you using any images (not icons / Map Markers) in the Topics or in the Topic Notes?
  • Do you use any background image in the map?
Response time:
  • Are you using topics with long lines of text?
  • Do you use a tiled background image in the map?

Hi Mathieu

Thank you for your tips. Sorry for the delay for my answer but your URL was blocked by our proxy.

I've checked your suggestions and I do not have such images in background (very few). But I have a lot of link to e-mail with heavy attachments some times. Those attachments are saved in the MAP ?

If yes, do you know an easy way to filter my map in order to select all the mail links. It will help me to clean the heaviest ones.

Thank you

Vincent

Yes. Als in many appications (like your emails) attachments are stored inside the map and that increases file size.

You find them easy with the Powerfilter.
Select the centrai topic
Open Powerfilter
Select Text & Other Properties
Tick the attachment box
Filter on any property and Matching topics

You will see only the topics that have attachments

Hello Ary,

I have started cleaning those heavy attachments. I do not really see a size decrease.  I checked the place where the e-mail attachments were and found the repository : C:\Users\vincchen\AppData\Local\Mindjet\MindManager\11\Temp

With a serie of repositories named Temp(1), Temp (2), .... where attachements are stored.

As far as I understand, it means that the mail attachements are not stored in the MAP itself (.mmap file).

Correct ? if so, It doesn't help to remove them. isn't it ?

Thank you for your help.

Hello Ary,

I have'nt seen any answer to my last post. Could you confirm my assumptions here above an/or give me advice to reduce the MMAP size ?

Thank you very much.

Well as soon as you found your own way in checking places where attachments could be stored etc. I assumed you could do it yourself.
I normally just give my advice and some guidance to end-users - not to system administrators or the like ;-)

You give us an idea how HUGE your map is. Mine tend to grow over time to an ever larger size as well. But I never encountered any response time issue.

Ofcourse I am always on the latest release, to avoid any issues.

Why not download a free 30 day trial of the latest MIndManager for Windows release (vs 2018) and open you map with it.
You may find your issue has gone away. If not, at least you find a lot of extra functionality that  helps you do your job better.

If you are not satisfied with it, simply delete it again.
