How can I easily switch between linked maps?

I created a map and inserted some linked maps (via context menu - Send Topic(s) to New linke map). What I want to do is, to switch easily between these maps. I have the links, however, when jumping back from a linked map to the main one I always get the message that the map is already open and has to be re-opened in read-only mode. That is quite annoying having then each map opened twice - one "normal and one in read-only.

Once the other maps are open, they should appear in tabs across the bottom of the MindManager window... and you just click on the one you want to bring forward.
Maybe there's a better way but this works for me. Clicking the link is asking to open the file again.

This is strange. If a Map is already open then when you click a hyperlink to it MindManager should detect that the Map is open and then simply make it the active Map.

The only time I have seen this is when you have a multiple install of MindManager, say MindManager 15 AND MindManager 14.

In this scenario, if MindManager 14 is the default application for opening MindManager files and you open a Map in MindManager 15 and then click a hyperlink to another Map which is already open in the MindManager 15 instance, your system tries to open the Map in MindManager 14 which it can't because MindManager 15 already has it open. It therefore opens in read-only mode in the MindManager 14 version.

Sounds confusing I know and I am sure you would have noticed that the Map was opening in another copy, if indeed you have two versions installed, but thought it might be worth mentioning.

HTH

If it is what Nigel suggests and I have also "enjoyed/been confused" by that experience the following may help as MindManager 14 and 15 have the same icon.

- if you don't need the other version, uninstall it.
- if your normal version is not the default app, repair it in Control Panel: Programs and Features
- if the other version is needed i.e. has an "add in" you occasionally use, consider doing any of the following:
~ Rename the occasional version on your desktop and task bar
~ Place the icon in an archive folder on the desktop
~ Move it to last place on the task bar
~ Remove it from the desktop and/or task bar.

Thanks for adding to that Andrew. I should have followed up with possible workarounds.

Thank you for your replies! I do not have two MindManager versions installed, but only the newer one, version 15. It is correct, that it would work by selecting the various tabs, however it is not really comfortable, especially when you have a greater number of maps.

Weird!

Its working fine for me with 15 and has done for 10 years.

A link to a map in a parent folder looks like this "..\Auctions in a Day.mmap"

A link to a map in a child folder looks like this "WordPress\WordPress.mmap"

What do your links look like? Select a topic with a link and press Ctrl-K.

Is there anything in the Link Options - Command Options?  It should be empty.

Try Control Panel - Programs and Features - Repair MindManager.
