Right-click on the top level topic and open the "Format Topic" dialogue. Then go to the "Subtopics Layout" tab and change the Distance from Parent.

In "Central Topic" "Distance from Parent" does not work.
In "SubTopic" it works.

How to make "Distance from Parent" work in "Central Topic"?

We have never been able to do this from the Central Topic.

You can however use the little (tiny) handle left from the topics and use Shift-Drag to position them
