How do I promote a topic to be the Central Topic?

If I have a map where I want to "rebase" on a new central topic, how can I promote one of my topics to be the new central topic?

I'm pretty sure it should be obvious but I've so far failed to find how to do this.

I assume you have MindManager for Windows...

Select the topic you want make into a central topic
Click right => select the Send (topic) to option. and send it to => New linked Map
This creates a new map with the selected topic as central topic.

Play around a bit with the settings and you see how to use it at your advantage

So how do I get rid of the link in the new map without losing central topic functionality?

Use your imagination and right mouseclick to do that

The other alternative is to visit the Mindjet Website and take a look at some of the videos.  They provide insights on how to use the wide variety of menu features including the "right mouse click" feature.

On point, Mindjet is not really designed for "dynamic mapping" like the Brain.  In fairness, The Brain does a great job for dynamic mapping.  Personally, I find Mindjet does a great job when helping clients with problems starting with a single topic in the middle of the page.

The Link Map feature is really helpful for exploring in depth detailed branches of an existing map.

This isn't quite what I was after. Freemind has an option to "Change Root Node" which makes the selected node the root node (make the selected topic the new central topic in MM terms).

Mindmaps are essentially trees and a tree can be picked up by any vertex to form another tree with exactly the same connections.

It's not something that's going to be a common requirement. The central topic is the theme and ideas grow from it. The scenario is that one of those ideas becomes the theme and rather than fiddle with copy and paste and/or new maps to make it the central topic (including all connections back to the original central topic) MM does the work for you.

Peter,

Thank you for your feedback. I am going to change this thread from a Question to an Idea, for future consideration to add this as a feature in MindManager.

Well, it's two years later, and I don't see this functionality in the current version, unless I'm missing something. I find it amazing that I have to jump through hoops to figure out how to convert an image into a central topic.

I know exactly what you want. I am a MJ user since the early Petaluna days so that lets you know I have been using and paying for MM.
Dealing with the new company as a sole individual is a frustrating waste of time.
I would give up 100% and switch to TheBrain if it had a few more capabilities.
I still pay for the brain and MJ and an considering Concept draw as they seem to be MORE customer centric.  In my opinion, MJ only cares about the large enterprise deals.
