Hay I just lost all my notes I have used the last 2 hours to enter in a mindjet mindmap located in the cloud storage. I'm using the ipad mindjet app. And now I am very disapointed and a bit nerveus that it will happen again and I did not know what I did wrong. I used to be so fond of mindjet products but now I don't know if it is safe to use. I do not like to have to redo everything ones again.

Have others tried the same?

Hi Preben,

Sorry you're having an issue with the app--can you describe to me where you first created the map, how you accessed it on the iPad, and what happened when you closed it? Thanks.

Hi Andy,

I will most certainly like to try to share my experience. First of all I will start to mention that I don’t write or speak English on a daily basis because I’m a Danish citizen . And I write to you from my Danish iPad and it will all time suggest Danish words when I write words in English so misspelling can occur (it’s a shame that Apple hasn’t figured that part out yet – English is not first language in all nations around the world but we still write a lot in English) .

Now to my experience with the MindJet iPad App. Professional I usually use MindJet MindManager but only in the windows version (I think I use version 7). And I have been a steady user for about 7 or 8 years. And I’m very fond of the MindManager product professionally. And now I then would like to test out the iPad / iPhone version privately. And based on my private testing of the product I might have started to use the mobile versions of MindManager at work also. But this will not be the case for the moment.

The first mobile MindManager app I installed was on my previous Andriod SmartPhone and on my iPad and even tried to create a MindMap on my iPad and then fetching it from my SmartPhone over Dropbox and it worked and it was very impressive. I could sit at home and write down some thoughts on my iPad and then later on I could sit at a dinner and browse my notes on my SmartPhone. Very useful and very cool.

Now privately I’m starting up on a dog training course where we have to read up a lot before each course session. And here I found the MindManager to be very suitable. I could read the book (a very theoretical dog training book) at home and make notes in a MindMap on my iPad and then at the course sessions I could go through my notes on my new iPhone 5 (dog training is mostly outside you see and an iPad would not be suitable here).

What I have done is to start up one day creating a cloud placed MindMap on my iPad. A day or two after I made a check from my iPhone to see if I could fetch the MindMap from the device. And that I could and maybe I made a change to the map but I can’t really remember.

Then last night I read further in my book and made a lot of new notes in my MindMap on my iPad. When I started it up I got a warning that a new version was stored in the cloud I think. And I answered that I would like to use that version. Then I started up writing. And I switched between the Safari App and the MindManager App a couple of times. And when I was finish adding some first level branches to the map of the chapters I will read next. The MindMap was suddenly back to where I started. Maybe the Cloud version was started at last or something like this. I don’t know. All the time when I was making my many notes there was a (1) sign shown on the refresh sign in the top of the screen. I don’t know what that was for. I thought it was showing I could undo the last note or something like this.

I pressed the undo / refresh sign after my newest notes had disappeared. But no matter what I did I could not get my many notes back.

I hope you can use my “story” and you are welcome send me further questions.

Best regards,
Preben Borg

I have had a similar experiences. One thing I have learn't is the iPad app checks the map out of the Cloud store. So you have to synch and close the map on the iPad to allow editing to start from Mindjet Web. If you edit the map in Mindjet Web whilst it is checked out to the iPad your changes will not be stored in the cloud, just the local cache and a local copy if you saved it to your local storage e.g. hard drive.

Wow Preben, thanks, that's a goldmine of info, both in terms of the details of the problem you encountered, and in terms of being a snapshot of how I hope users engage with the app across work and personal (I feel like mobile apps that encourage that overlap are more effective and more useful).

Andrew, that is the current logic--opening a map on the iOS clients functions as a de facto checkout. If you then open the same map on the web client, it will be as read-only, and subsequent changes will be stored as a copy. One small correction, if I understand your comment correctly--the copy will also be stored on the cloud, not in local cache.

We are currently looking into the issues that have been reported recently--because there haven't been any changes to the iOS app itself recently, I'm concerned that some back-end changes are at the root, but we're still working through it. Thanks for the detailed reports, and your patience.

I just created a significant amount of content in a map on my ipad. I am new at using the mindjet app / cloud, so I did not know I had to select the folder in the cloud then select sync for the data to be uploaded into the cloud. What I did was open Mindjet on my PC, and selected the file to start editing it some more, but there was only the title block. so I closed that, and it asked me if I wanted to check in my changes, but I did not make any changes, so I clicked okay. I went back to my ipad to see if I could figure out how to upload / checkin the changes I had made there. The Mindjet app locked up on my ipad, so I shut it down and restarted, and now it will not connect to the cloud. It is still showing there is 1 file that needs to be synced, so I am hoping my data is still in my ipad somewhere?

How do I get my ipad to connect again without loosing my data?

If I try to log out, it says I will loose any unsynced data.

Thank You,

Circling back on this thread--is it right to assume that the people reporting on this thread have been using the Mindjet mobile apps for a while, and only recently are encountering this issue? I am starting to see a sudden uptick in these reports, and am trying to understand the how and why of it. Please let me know if you had been using the apps relatively glitch-free up until recently, and roughly when you encountered the synching problems that are now being more frequently reported. Thanks.
