I lost a map - it got overwritten by another map, please help!

Hi there,

I have done a lot of work on a map and it has now been overwritten by another map. Is there anyway I can get the original map back please!!??

Hi Ben. What Mindjet product are you using? MindManager or Mindjet Connect? Thank you!

Hi Brittney,

I'm using Mindjet Connect (Vision).

It looks like another map saved over my original map. I think the solution would be to somehow load an earlier version of the map if you can do something like this. I'm sure its happened before to other people though... so I will wait for your reply on how to fix this!

Hi Brittney,

Thanks, but all I have had back from support so far is:

"In case you have overwritten a file, I'm afraid there is no way MindManager can bring it back. You will need to to restore your file from your backups.

I'm terribly sorry there is nothing we can do for your in this case."

I replied asking where i can find "My backups" but have heard nothing since. I don't know if there are trying to basically tell me that I'm screwed and I should have been keeping saved copies to my desktop as well?!

Hi Ben..

This is why I do not rely (trust) the connect system. I need to be able to backup periodically my connect files either as a batch backup that could be zipped for example, but as of today, that can not be done. Each file must be done one at a time.

I use dropbox for all important files, which has a restore history if you lose or change a file by accident. And they can be shared.

I use connect for sharing, but not for anything important. If I lose my critical files, I would rather it be my fault that I did not backup it up frequently enough, rather than someone saying, sorry.

Connect is a great system, and if there was a file sync or some way to keep local copies synced with connect so modification at either side is synced, that woud be great. Evernote and dropbox, for example, do a great job of this. I expect that Dropbox will eventually allow collaboration.

Unfortunately, I have tried to get others to use connect, but they want to keep their files on their system.

Hi Brittney, so i got this response back from support:

Dear John,

Thank you for contacting Mindjet Support.

I'm afraid there's nothing we can do when you have overwritten your file with another one.
In Mindjet Connnect business accounts, you can create revisions of a file manually, but I'm afraid this option is not available in basic/free accounts.

Which is in direct contrast to Gary Todd in the other post who also had a free account but was aided by a support engineer to retrieve his map.

I'm certain that i did not overwrite the file, I only ever save with ctrl-s and just cannot see how it might have happened

In that case I hope Terry can help me too. Started using the application for the first time yesterday. Did a load of work for a meeting this morning, saving all the while (online version). This morning ALL my work is lost and I now have nothing to present at my meeting. I have raised a ticket (Mindjet Case # 00252846: Lost map! [ ref:_00DA0I0cY._500G0ApaDm:ref ]) but apparently I can only expect a reply back in 2 days time. Seriously unhappy. I've wasted a whole day with nothing to show for it. What am I going to tell my employer!?
