Inconsistent behaviour when collapsing and expanding maps

I've noticed that when you choose Collapse Map under the View tab on the ribbon the whole map is collapsed as expected, including sub-topics attached to floating topics. However choose any level under the Expand button on the same ribbon (including Show All Levels) and only the main map is expanded. Floating topics are not affected and have to be expanded individually using each floating topic's + button.

Does everyone have the same experience? I can't see any logical reason for this so I assume it's a bug.

Hi Alex,

I have the same experience as you but would add that the Expand commands work if the Floating Topic is selected.

If nothing is selected then the expand works on the Main Central Topic. If the Floating Topic is selected then the expand works on the Floating Topic branches only and the Main Map stays as is...

Thanks Nigel.

You're right - you have to select all the floating topics for them to be expanded, but then the central topic isn't expanded unless it is selected as well - though by the time you do that you may as well have expanded the floating topics individually (unless the floating topics have multiple levels of sub-topics).

It's still inconsistent behaviour in comparison with the collapse map button which works on all floating topics as well as the central topic branches.

Thank you for pointing out the inconsistent behavior. I will send your feedback to our Product Management Team to review.

Thanks Marian. I acknowledge however that some people may be used to the current behaviour and/or would like to expand (and, if possible, collapse) just the main map tree using the global commands without affecting the status of floating topics.

One approach to accommodate this but which would also remove the inconsistency and make it easier for those of us who want the global commands to apply to the whole map might be for these commands to work in two ways:

1. If no topic is selected when either the collapse or expand command is selected then the whole map including all floating topics is contracted or expanded.

2. If on the other hand one or more topics or sub-topics (floating or otherwise) is selected then only the trees associated with that topic or sub-topic are contracted or expanded.
