Hello

Is there any way to permanently stop individual Topics from appearing on the Schedule view?

BACKGROUND
I am using a hierarchy to put my projects into Area of Life categories. [This works well to automatically allocate Tags to my topics using "Topic Belongs To Branch" in Smart Rules...]

But I need to stop these parent topics from cluttering up my Schedule view. Is there any way to talk MindManager that a topic is not an actionable? i.e. That it is not a Action and not any part of a project. If possible would like to be able to do this without using the Power Filters.

With thanks

J

EDIT: Or to put it the other way, how do I get the Schedule view to only ever show topics which are Tasks? Is it possible to create a completely new 'View' that has one Power Filter in place permanently or to the Power Filters always apply to all the Views at once?

Could you make the Smart Rule smarter, so that instead of assigning a tag only on the basis of membership of  a tree, it also requires the topic to be a task? Then you will only get the Area of Life tags on tasks.

Sounds cunning... however my central problem is how can I stop Topics from appearing in my Tag Group type of views at all, EVER?

Using Smart Rules, I can have effects like add Tags or changing topic formatting or adding Icons but they still seem to appear in the Uncategorized column.  Or are we saying that I will have to keep applying at Power Filter to hide certain topics?

You can collapse the Unscheduled / Uncategorized columns by clicking on the "-" symbol in the column header. This helps to clean up the views a little.

Yes, however new stuff will still keep appearing in this column...

Ah yes, better than that is to create a new Tag within the group that will then appear on my Tab Group view, onto which I can drag stuff that I don't want to see and then collapse it from view. A bit clunky, but should work  :)

Thanks

EDIT: Or maybe find a way to use an automatically generated Tag... :)

To be honest I'm still slightly struggling with this.

If I have a project with lots of task allocated to it my entire Kanban is quickly getting overwhelmed by tasks and sub-tasks arriving in my "Uncategorized" column. Yes, I can minimise it but I then need a method for flagging up tasks that I DO want to appear in my Kanban view.

What would be the best way to mark up topics as being Tasks for Kanban? Should I use  the "Progress" marker? OR a special icon?

I tried creating a SmartRule for "if the icons contain [special new task icon] and there are no other Kanban Tags, the give it the Kanban tag of 'New_Tasks"". However it wont then let me DRAG the task to the any other Kanban column. Although if I manually change it, then MindManager cheerfully lets me drag it around afterwards [GRRR]

Any thoughts?

Hi John,

Please edit your SmartRule and check the box "Allow manual overrides" and you should be able to drag the topics from your New_Tasks column to other columns.

If you still have issues let me know.

Hope that helps!

OK yes, that does work, however now every time I drag a task with my special icon MindManager temporarily drags it to the bottom of the Uncategorized Kanban column, and leaves the map window there. Worse, it will open the column up if I had it collaped, and leave it open.

So technically it does work but all this is starting to feel a bit "Monkey's Paw"... !  (google it)

Hi John,

What you are experience certainly doesn't sound normal. If you'd like to schedule a conference call to demonstrate the issue please email ux@mindjet.com.

Thanks,

Yes, I shall take you up on this, thanks.

Fwiw, MM2019 has exactly the same problem!
i.e. That when you apply/remove a SmartRule to move a topic between columns on a Kanban view, that MindManager briefly has no column for the topic and puts the top at the bottom of the "Uncategorized" column - causing the window to briefly scroll to the bottom of the column in order to view it - and unfortunately MM fails to scroll up again.

I have now done some further experiments.

It seems that there is NO way to stop MindManager from jumping to the bottom of the 'Uncategorized' column. The only thing that one can do is apply a filter to stop my large number of Uncategorized topics from appearing. This way, although the topic is instantaneously put into this column and then removed, at least the window is not left in the wrong place.
