Mac vs. Windows versions: Does Mindjet plan to enable 2-way syncing of tasks between Mindjet online tasks and Mindjet 10 for Mac?

This is a huge need for Mac users who are trying to function in the new world of crossplatform project management that Mindjet is trying to establish. There appears to be a major disconnect between Mac and Windows functionality. Currently, there is no sync between map tasks and tasks created from map topics. So changes to a task label or status in Mindjet Action are not reflected in the original map that is tracking the project.

From the Mindjet 11 (Windows) manual:

Online Task Sync: Create tasks and projects from topics in your map. Task assignments from the desktop can be updated in the Mindjet web or mobile app, and the updated information is reflected in the desktop topics automatically.

Will the Mac desktop app gain this essential functionality? Thanks

Will the Mac version ever have parity with the Windows?

I'm with Brian. That's an essential question !!! Your advertising suggests that the functionality is even the same on all platforms (even iPad). Looks like that is not supported. And it makes no sense to have MindMaps created with the features available in WIndows and it's impossible to use this on a Mac.
Thanks ?

BJ, Brian, & Max,

The Mac product does not have all the same functionality as the more mature Windows product. However, it is part of our strategic roadmap to allow tasks created in the Mac to be tracked and managed online in Mindjet tasks. Likewise, it is important to be able to query your online Mindjet tasks and display them in dashboard maps.

Thanks,
Michael

Michael,

I feel MindJet has a big problem with the Mac version. It is a very poor product with a history of being treated as a hated red headed step child.

The push given over the last month about the new amazing product for Windows really turned me off and I would expect a lot of other Mac users have the same feeling. IF, and that is a big IF currently, I renew it will only be if the next Mac version is completely on par with the then current Windows version and at the same deals given the Windows users last month.

Brian -- Thanks for sharing. Yes, there is a challenge, problem or opportunity (depends on perspective). Our Windows product was the first product that Mindjet released. It had approximately seven years of development and millions invested in it before the first Mac version was even introduced. While it isn't likely that overnight we can catch up with the Windows version, the team has been listening carefully to customer feedback and prioritizing to bridge the gap as best and as fast as possible.

Hi Brian - a pragmatic solution I have suggested to our clients in New Zealand and Australia is to use Parallels on Mac to run both platforms so that you have the benefit of present Windows functionality as well. Many of our Mac clients do and find that although not the ideal solution - this provides a workaround.

Mindjet,

This should be on the top of your list folks. I'm actually planning on calling and road mapping my ideas with you folks directly. A major part of my consulting work would be using this product with Startups, Musicians and Small Businesses. Parity within a cross platform system will appeal to this HUGE demographic that has turned *widely* towards a Mac platform like never before.

I wanted my voice heard on this forum but will speak with you folks soon.

I agree that this needs to be a top development priority for Mindjet. When I purchased the product (Mindjet for Individuals) it wasn't clear that this functionality (2 way sync-ing between Desktop app and Mindjet Tasks) wasn't available for the Mac. So I feel disappointed, as this was probably THE key functionality I was after.

Is there a timeframe on when this functionality will be available? Otherwise, I'm seriously considering turning in my licence key and asking for a refund.

Thanks

Hi everyone. Integrating Mindjet Tasks with our Mac desktop app is one of our top priorities. The team is working on it now. We don't publish release dates so I cannot share that with you in advance, sorry.

Hi Michael

Thanks for getting back with that information. Really glad to hear the team is working on it. I understand that you don't publish release dates. However that still leaves me in the position of wondering if it is worth me keeping my licence in the meantime, seeing I don't have any idea how long it might be before the functionality I was after from the product I purchased will come online (so to speak)? Can you offer any other sense, even in broad terms, of how long we could be waiting?

With thanks

DJ

Hi DJ, we're looking to release the ability to send topics to Mindjet tasks within the next few months. We'll continue to evolve the capabilities throughout the year. Of course, as I say this, everything is subject to change but that is our current plan.

Hi Michael, suggest that it is completely unfair that the Mac and Windows versions are priced the same until they have exactly the same functionality.

Currently Mac users are paying for functions they don't have - we may get them this year but surely we should have a discount until then - sure you won't be able to change annual subscribers until renewal however that would be a goodwill gesture by the company. One way to do is that offer a discount next renewal based on the amount of time a Mac user didn't have the full functionality.

At the moment the goodwill is one way - from users and not the company.

That's a really good thought, Larry and I would wholeheartedly agree! I am really not using Microsoft Tasks as much as I could and would like to because of the current lack of functionality. So I'm paying for a product that's only half functional (it would mean double handling to really use it at the moment, and I simply don't have the time or energy for that.)

So yes, a (more than nominal) discount for the period that the Mac version lags well behind the functionality of the Windows version gets a hearty 'Amen' from me!

I'm always sad to see that even a company developing a professional product like MindManager is not able to give reliable timeframe for the development of their products.
No other industry can afford that, but software development seems to always stay in his bubble.

It is funny to read all these posts about timeframes for products for the Mac where Apple never disclosed any plans before a product was released.

I do agree that Mindjet should be working on it and expect them to deliver asap

The Mindjet team is working on a project to provide Task integration with Mindjet's online tasks.

In regards to the pricing, thank you for your feedback. I'll share that with the team.

I have been a user of MM for windows for many years. I was used to work with it for everything: planning, meetings, presentations, filing, project management, whatever. I was amazed by the capabilities and power or MM and I became an evangelist and promoted the introduction of the MM into my company (several thousands employees).
Then, three years ago, I switched from Windows to Mac to find that the switch from from MM for Windows to MM for Mac was just a very bad move!. Three years after I still do not have the same functionality I had previously. Not to mention the distance with the actual version for Windows. The pace of development of the MM for Mac is just frustratingly slow.
It is the worse switching experience from all the professional applications I had in Windows. Some of the other just do not offer a "Mac version" which is fair if the application is not comparable with the original. You look for another solution from the very start instead of getting stucked half way waiting for improvements.
The answer "we are working very hard on the improvement of the Mac version and eventually it might come in the future" is not a solution.
I regret to admit that I am starting trying another applications because I just can not wait indefinitely.
Hope Mindjet arrive on time.

I just discovered I cannot access the tasks I created on a PC from my Mac. Should I be able to access them on the online version from my Mac?
