It seems that there is a difference betwee the connection types in the DB Linker. For example, the connection to the sample database allows refreshing but a connection to an Excel sheet doesn't seem to allow refreshing? I'm not sure you can enable refreshing of Excel connections?

Dong,

Excel Databases are not refreshable.  As a workaround, you can convert your excel file to a MS Access DB and then add the connection to MindManager.

Why not use the excellinker facilty?

It is the feature meant to access excel-sheets and make dashboards etc.

It does refresh (and you can switch refresh off and on)

Yes. That is it. You can do a lot with it, decide after playing with it for at least 47 minutes. Mindjet has in their wisdom ;-) a habit of renaming features

I'm having the same problem. It doesn't give me the option to refresh data from an Excel 2010 spreadsheet and I haven't disconnected the topic.

I am also having the same issue, MindManager would be a much more useful program for me if this were possible!

I have the same issue trying to link excel to mindjet. I was hoping to create an access table linked to an excel table as per this video but for some reason mindjet does not see tables created this way. I can copy and paste the excel table into a normal access table and mindjet will see it but the data is not linked to excel so no use.
Mindjet should be able to refresh / update live data from excel and ideally also add new records. Is this functionality on the roadmap?

bevangg.... Maybe I miss something here.
Do you have an excelsheet with elements (like a table) that you wish to show in  a MindManager Mindmap and if you change something in the excelsheet those will be visble in the Mindmap?.

The Excel linker does just that, you only have to refresh the view (use F5)
That is a lot less work compared to the 3,5 minute video you refer to.

Ary, thanks for the reply. I am aware of the Excel linker map part and it has very limited usefulness.
We need to be able to import data in the format that a linked database does ie not as an excel linker table but as topics for rows and headings for data. Dong's screen shots above show exactly what I mean. The point being to be able to roll up project data, flag and visualise it. You cannot access data in excel linker tables afaik.
You can query the data and add it to the map but it then cannot be refreshed. What we want to do is be able to dynamically link the data so that any changes or additions in excel show in mindjet without having to go through the entire process of querying and populating the map. It is surreal that mindjet cannot do this considering it's "office integration". I can only imagine that they do not see it as a priority or necessity. The fact that there is a video on youtube where somebody has written their own script to do this suggests it would not be beyond the capabilities of a company in active development and specialising in such a way. The fact that there are a number of threads on the forum about this suggests that people really want this feature, 5 of us on this thread alone.
Let's all hope it happens soon.

OK I do NOT understand what you want. I have data linked dynamically with my maps, all changes are shown without queries, just F5, and I am satisfied with this kind of office integration. I can even do this with MS Access databases.

You want something else, What that is is not clear to me after studying your posts twice.

Hi Ary, the Excel linker map part creates a spreadsheet on the map. The data in this spreadsheet is not accessible for use in formulae but is refreshable.
An excel database connection can query worksheets and add the results to a topic as subtopics with all fields available as properties for use in formulae. All good so far, all the data on the map can be accessed and manipulated any way we want. However, if anything is changed or added on the excel "database" there is no way to refresh the data on the map

In the sceenshot on the left is an excel linker map part, on the right is the same data from an excel database connection with some formulae in the central topic manipulating the data. If I were to change Ron's gender from female to male in the excel datasource it will not show on the map and refresh is not an option. The only way to do what I want at the moment would be to delete and re-query everything.   I am suggesting that mindjet should have a facility to refresh the data automatically.

NB just to clarify the formulae pick up the data from the database topics, not the excel linker map part. As far as I know there is no way to use the data on the map part in formulae. If that was possible it would also solve the problem.

That is also my concern, I want to be able to link to Excel data, use it in formulae by assigning the excel data to topic properties, but be able to dynamically refresh. Unfortunately it doesn't appear you can do this--the option to insert a portion of a table(which is refreshable) doesn't allow you to use the data in a formula

Have a look at MAP, an add-in for MindManager that can offer this capability and a host of other functionality. The Topic Property functions can be browsed here: http://www.mapformindmanager.com/map-commands/topic-properties/

The Excel Property function allows you to bring a value into a Map Topic Property from a Spreadsheet. This value can be changed in MindManager and sent back to the sheet and also updated in the sheet and sent back to the Map. These properties can also be utilized in Topic Formulas.

The Topic Properties area of MindManager is something we are constantly looking to advance so we may be adding to this particular functionality in future releases.

Regards
Nigel
