MindManager Upgrade Subscription - Product RoadMaps

I've been a Mindjet MindManager for over 20 years. I understand the need for upgrade assurance to lock in loyal customers and to finance further development.

However, as part of that loyalty, I expect the company to give customers a roadmap of upcoming functionality for at least 1 year ahead.

Currently, it feels like the company just expects customers to blindly provide money without any idea what for other than some vague promise of a new version with perhaps some new functionality of some kind.

Why is the company unable to provide a yearly roadmap for the next version? Is it a sign of being directionless or laziness? Neither is good for customers.

Well... Although this is a question that Mindjet/Corel should respond to... I think that they have the same reason as Apple, Google, Microsoft and most other prominent suppliers. They want to announce only what is available, ready for use and tested.

That said, There is a group selected betatesters that have some early information. Why not apply via Mindjet support to be included in that betatestergroup.

I think part of the frustration might be that there seems to be little really new (or renewed)  functionality for the general user coming out each year.  There are many useful functions that many users would like to use, eg look at those in the MAP product, that can be added rather than having to buy an add-on from another supplier.

Glad you're back responding to questions. You often have useful solutions or advice and respond in a much more timely fashion than Mindjet/Corel seem to.

I would gently pushback:

  • Microsoft 365 - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=
  • Apple - Apple have built up a microcosm around iDevice functionality that it uses to inform & drive development
  • Google - I only use Google for staples like search or cloud offerings either for free or very low cost and don't expect much change in them.
I'm on the beta tester group. I can understand wanting to only announce what is available, ready for use and tested for new customers, but why not share with existing, loyal customers that are being asked to front-up cash for future development? If they are not willing to do that, then I'd rather be asked to pay upgrade assurance when a new version is available - and not be penalised if I choose to miss out a version that doesn't give me any added value.

It would help if you kindly ask in this forum you want take part in the beta test program.
There you would see what's coming up and you can add all your wishes.

Morning Andreas

Er, did you not read my comment. I'm on the beta tester group.

I feel lt is a reasonable request that Mindjet/Corel supply existing customers they ask to pay for an Upgrade Subscription with a product roadmap, so they have visibility of what future functionality they are likely going to get for that payment.

Do you think that is unreasonable? If so, then why?

I hope Mindjet/Corel are reading posts but there seems to be little acknowledgement or response.

Regards

James.

Good point Jim.
I'd like to know what's coming up with the next releases. A short road map would be great.

What do you think @MindManager?

It would seem that Mindjet/Corel are reading posts and responding - I have got some timely responses today having seen little over the past 2-3 months.

Hello Jim - thanks for your comment.

Roadmap information is company confidential information which is only released in advance for specific reasons and/or under NDA. This advanced roadmap information constitutes advantageous information for competitors and can be detrimental to a planned release if it were released into the market prematurely.

Sometimes you may see future information released if the software is in a market segment by itself and a company basically owns the marketspace, or if the company is purposely trying to drive market excitement for an upcoming feature. Generally this is not the case and most roadmap information is held close to the chest.

As for UPP, this program exists to provide a lower cost option to buying a totally new versions of MindManager at full price. There is always a risk that the user will not use all of the features of a new release - this is the case with all software offers. UPP is only offered at initial purchase time and is not something a user can opt into down the road. Every user needs to determine if it is the right choice for themselves.

We have some real exciting features being worked that will really advance the ways in which MindManager can be used by our user base. I would love to share that information in advance, but unfortunately can't. I hope you understand.

Thanks for being a loyal MindManager user.

Cheers... Blair
