MM 9.5 & Mountain Lion: crashing, plus: again (!) a spotlight-issue using the provided importer...

same problem i reported month ago (spotlight, mdworker running at 100% cpu), no fix was provided.

what are you guys doing? since years after using your products, i will now start to look for alternatives - it is driving me crazy!

the OS X development preview has been out for a long time, how is it possible that you are not able to provide a fix on time?

you are about to loose me as a customer, for quite a while then.

Hi Mario. Is there any possibility that another file-type importer is taking 100% of the CPU or is it definitely MindManager? If it is MindManager that is causing this, how long has it been running at 100%? Hour(s), days, weeks?

In terms of crashing, it would be helpful to understand how you are interacting with app and what makes it crash. Please provide a detailed description of the steps that you are taking prior to the app crashing. Does this happen with a certain map file or all maps?

Thank you Mario. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

hi brittney,

thanks for your fast reply; to your questions:

1. i don't know for how long it would have run, since i stopped it after a few minutes; i renamed & afterwards moved & deleted the spotlight plugin in folder of mindmanager; since that: no problems. see my earlier post few month ago, same problem, same solution (well, not really...)

2. up until now, i don't recognize any specific pattern for the crashes; it is neither file dependend, nor is it reproducable. it simply happens from time to time, then it will be working fine a few seconds later. for hours.

btw: also quite annoying: although i try to open a file by doubleclick, the "assistant" always pops up (i can see the file being loaded in the background window), and i have to close the assistant-window manually to start working on my opened file...

cheers,
m

Having the same Spotlight problems. Very slow or not responding at all.
I also found that when from spotlight you ask to show the results in finder, the search regularly freezes and the window in finder just stays empty.

After deleting a few letters from the searchbar (in the finder window) and typing them again the app soemtimes comes to life again and sometimes not.

Very problematic, I'm using spotlight search on my computer at least 50 times per day and this is starting to drive me crazy.

Hi Mario and Robert. At this point, I would recommend opening a ticket with our support team. They will need to gather additional information to best assess the issue that you are both experiencing. If you could follow this link: https://secure.mindjet.com/support/co... to open a ticket, that would be great! Once you have opened the support ticket, please reply to this thread with the case number assigned to you. This way I can be sure to track the progress. Thank you.

well, opened a ticket...

is it possible that the link above is not on your homepage? i tried to open a ticket and all i got was a link to this forum.

is this the idea, to have customers first discuss their problems here and then the get the link or how is this supposed to work?

i am getting really frustrated by now, sorry.

Hi Fábio,

We are currently testing a new version of Mindjet for Mac which should be released within the next week or so.

so this is what i just received today:

++++++

Dear Mario,

Thank you for contacting Mindjet Support.

Applies to: MindManager Mac 9

Currently MindManager 9.5 for Mac is designed to run on Mac OS® X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and 10.7 (Lion).

It has not been extensively tested on Mac OS® X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). When using MindManager 9.5 for Mac with Mountain Lion, we advise you to use caution and save your work often.

MindManager 9.6 for Mac (available soon) will be fully tested with Mountain Lion, and we will announce its release in the Mindjet Blog. When it is available you can update to this new version by choosing Help > Check for Updates in MindManager.

As workaround please perform a clean reinstall of MindManager using the following workaround.

++++++

so, the workaround is to reinstall a not fully tested - thus not obviously compatible - version of mindmanager, using a workaround (!).

as you might understand, this answer doesnt fully meet my expectations. also, referencing your blog is NOT an option.

in consequence, you just lost a many years customer; fortunately, there are competitors.

sincerely,
m

Hi Mario,

The, workaround was only intended to restore access to you the application and your data. Please download Mindmanger Mac 9.6 as there are many performance improvements, bug fixes and Mountain Lion compatibility. If you continue to have issues, respond to the email sent by support to request additional investigation.

thanks, download worked.

BUT, again there is a nagging issue: i do not and do not want to use this mindjet-connect-stuff; unfortunately, mm 9.6 is now permanently asking me to log in when i open an existing file... EVERYTIME.

please tell me this behaviour can be switched of, otherwise i will have to ask if there isnt someone testing the software.

hello ary,

thanks for the advice, but there is no option for switching this of, at least i didnt find any. and no, i havent checked helpfiles, as i do not expect any further information in there - seems more like another careless mistake to me.

cheers,
m

hello ary,

again, thank you very much!

...but this one i knew already. the point is, i do *not* want to use the connect feature(s), nor do i want to be logged in, nor do i even know if i have an apropriate account.

you see, i just want to use mindmanager locally, no internet connection, no sending data to any service i dont want to use.

i understand that the user obviously HAS to log in in order to get rid of that dialogue, which is exactly what i DONT want to do (like i said: i dont want to use any online features).

talking about a careless mistake: i do expect a "on/off" switch for such a feature (giving the user his own choice about going "online"), or - once the dialogue got cancelled - at least stop the software from nagging me each time it starts (i.e. having an "offline-mode" like many other softwares do, if they need the explicit status).

cheers,
m

Hi Mario,

At startup when prompted, click Cancel

then

From within MindManager Mac 9.6

Choose >MindManager > Preferences (Command ,)
Deselect the Mindjet Connect option to "Sign in on startup"

This solution does not require you to login to Connect or register for an account.

hello ary,

very good advice, but again, i cannot switch it of in preferences (mac-version). regardless which option i choose, the dialogue ALWAYS pops up.

see following attachment, unfortunately in german, but it might give you the idea.

plus, here is the dialogue that pops up everytime:

and again, the usecase is:
- mm is closed
- double-click any mindmap
- mm opens, loads the file in the background
- popup appears, trying to force me into the connect-stuff, which i ALWAYS cancel.

hth,
m

Hi Marion,

Alternately a German OS Screenshot, just deselect "Bei Programmstart anmelden)

Please let me know if you have other concerns.

hey terry,

thanks, seen that, but this brings up other windows when opening files:

see post above: regardless of the chosen option, i will never get directly to the file i want to open, i always have
- the assistant / templates
- the connect-stuff
- empty map
- welcome popup

i need to quickly open different maps, and when mm is opened (i use to really quit apps) by double-clicking a file, i never get to the file directly...

maybe i do miss something, pls try the above procedure (usecase) and tell me someone can do this without other windows poping up in front.

thanks,
m
