I can only move sub-topics to the left of the main one without keeping the relation between them...if i balance the map, everything goes to the right of the main topic.

The question is simple - lets say I have 10 sub-topics and i want 5 of the to the left of the main topic, and 5 to the right. As it is, i have 10 to the right and I have to scroll down a lot to read the whole thing.

What program/version are you using? And what map growth format are you using; standard, tree or org-chart, etc?

I'm not sure what tutorial you are using, but it may be that it's based on one of the project-oriented map templates, many of which are right-facing maps.

Try starting with the default blank map template, or any of the templates with topics on both sides of the central topic. When the map comes up, highlight the central topic and go to the Formatting section under the Home tab on the ribbon. Click on the down arrow next to Growth and confirm that the map layout is the first option, Map, and definitely not Right Map or Tree.

I had the same issue and indeed, this is due to a certain template (the default one). I simply changed the template and it works.
