New Mac Version?

Mindmanager 10 for Mac was released 3 years ago. Considering the recent release of Mindmanager 2016 for Windows when are we ever going to see an upgrade for the Mac? I do a lot of cross platform work and the widening gap between platform versions is making it a very difficult choice of mindmap software for me now.

as a mind manager user since 1995 I am very disappointed with the Mac version. It is considerably inferior to the Windows version. I suspect it is moribund!

I decided to contact customer support, they said it was a new focus because of all the angry mac users and a new update would come in Q1 (assumed 2016). But it still wouldn't be same features as current Windows version. At this stage it feels like it's still going to be too little too late and I'm better off with any competitor who are all consistent and support multiple platforms and invariably cheaper.

I've moved a lot of my content to ConceptDRAW MindMap. Feature parity with Win and Mac. Not all of the features that you get with Mindjet, but a lot better platform support.

Rereading posts to see if there are any additional comments... I missed your note about the angry Mac users. I'm glad that at least Mindjet acknowledged that there are angry Mac users and the company will do something about it. Eventually. Of course, here it is almost the end of Q1 2016 and there hasn't been any news.

Its the simple things that are frustrating - no ability to split a topic and no easy way to change defaults for topics within a map...  Its a very poor imitation of the Windows version - I would not buy it again.

As a long time user, I am so disappointed that they have neglected us Mac users. When I first started using it well over a decade ago, I was using PC (WIN), but switched to Mac about 7 years ago.  I still get emails with all the incredible WIN updates - YEAR AFTER YEAR - but nothing for us Mac users.  How can a company have such tunnel vision?  I am currently testing out 2 new solutions.  I hate to have to learn new software and shortcuts, but I now feel like an idiot for supporting a company that doesn't support my needs or seem to care.

Yes I too have used the product for years on both platforms and as the managing director at Adobe and then Alias I brought the product into some very large organisations. Been back on the mac for years now and the company does not seem to show any support for the product. Odd given Apple is largest company in the world and I would say with a heavy bias towards creative types mind mapping software would be a key focus... seem to be just resting on past accolades

The firm do seem to be on the decline. Developer website on Attlasian servers broken, links to version 7 offered as latest object model reference. Documentation not being updated (Version 11 is the latest), never active on the user forums.

When I look at Glassdoor - I see that staff seem to be demoralized.
https://www.glassdoor.co.uk/Reviews/M...

Their latest news on Techcrunch is from 2011.
http://techcrunch.com/tag/mindjet/

They bought a mobile solution called Thinking Space I was using a few years ago and rebadged it - they may well be struggling with a codebase designed so long ago.

I think they'd be best to open source the code at some branch perhaps a few editions ago and continue as a smaller more nimbler firm providing value to their corporate contracts. Much like a Redhat Linux model I guess

Well that's my take on it.

May your maps always lead you where you need to get to ;-)

I have recently switched to a Macbook as my primary computer at office (was already a Mac user at home)  and I am deeply frustated with Mindmanager for Mac; I have lost a lot of money purchasing a full Mindmanager license that is useless now. The Mac version is far behind the Windows version, it's old and outdated program.
Xmind is approved for internal use in my company and I am playing with it; seems to be a viable alternative to Mindmanager.

Let's see... we've had mentions for XMind, iMind, ConceptDraw MindMap, and possibly a few others. I've been using ConceptDraw MindMap because it will read MindManager files. It's Windows and Mac versions have feature parity.

The most amazing thing about all of this, is that Mindjet doesn't even respond to any of these threads or offer us any kind of hope that they care about Mac users.  When I called support to find out about the next Mac upgrade, they sent me here and told me that this would be the best place to get a response about the upgrade.  Well, it didn't work.  It just reinforces that they do not care about supporting Mac users.

Hi. We understand the frustration of Mac users.  Many of us are Mac users at Mindjet.  As longtime MindManager users know, Mindjet the company has been reorganized to provide clear focus on improving MindManager.  The first step was to provide a significantly improved Windows release, MindManager 2016, since our global base skews heavily toward Windows.  The next step is to dramatically improve the Mac.  You will see some announcements in the next quarter and more significant announcements later this year.

Tim makes a great point that the smaller mac user base may be because of the lack of mac support rather than the other way around. I suspect on paper I'd be classed as a "Windows user" by Mindjet yet I'm put off using Mindmanager any more just because I don't have the option of easily using my macbook too. It's not just "Mac users" but also "multi platform users" that are being deterred. Almost every mindmap app I've used is available on mac and pc and they are on feature parity.

Also as Tim points out it seems we've heard the promises before, look in the earlier comments. I started this thread and even at the start  I was told by Mindjet we'd see an update in Q1! Now it is going to be  Q2/3, "later this year" and it's been reduced from "update" to just "announcements".  So just in the lifetime of this thread alone the promises are heavily diluted and delayed, so is it any wonder there's such scepticism and still very much a feeling of too little, too late. Really at this point for me it would have to be made up by having amazing upgrade of Mindmanager as a platform (still leaves a lot to be desired even in Windows for features and exporting)/huge reduction in price and definitive feature parity across platforms. Anything less than that seems pointless to me.

I hear both of your feedback and understand any cynicism or skepticism. Andrew, unfortunately, you will not see parity in this upcoming update. We're on a path towards it but it'll take some time to get there. Action will speak louder than words. We'll have improvements and new features in this next Mac release and more improvements to come in subsequent releases to reduce and ultimately eliminate the gap between the two platforms.

Are there any additional updates? It would be nice to know if Mac development continues, especially since the announcement of the new Windows MM 2017 preview version.

From my comment: "Also as Tim points out it seems we've heard the promises before, look in the earlier comments. I started this thread and even at the start  I was told by Mindjet we'd see an update in Q1! Now it is going to be  Q2/3, "

and response "We're on a path towards it but it'll take some time to get there. Action will speak louder than words."

Looks like I was right about hearing these promises before. Where's the "action" on this, we're already well into Q3.

I'm not actually expecting anything, I've already resigned myself to just simply assuming mac is now dead for mindmanager development. Even the "good intentions" are for minor updates and not proper upgrades equivalent to windows version so that might as well be not updating it at all for what I wanted.

Re Mac update. Ok, it is 4 months since the statement about a release in the next qtr?? any news? I see that the price is discounted but with the product release schedule of the last 3 years that would be good money after bad. It would be really great if the company built some trust with real honest communications to a client base that has been with you for almost decades

I've been using Mindmanager on Windows for many years at home, and for some years on MAC at work, and have stuck with the MAC version as fortunately the current v10 does still work with El Capitan OSX 10.11, but please bring some of the extra Windows features as this will make a huge improvement in the usability.
I need the ability to take notes and do a first level info sort as I'm doing this as I can't handle simple lists, but splitting topics and separating a selected set or branch out to another file would be so useful.  I don't want to become another leaver, but it's still a risk.
I have to fund this on my own, and won't willingly purchase another version until there is a real upgrade, but I'm likely to buy if you bring some useful upgrades to the MAC version.

Hmmm interestng if you don't have 10 and update to new mac OS you are now out of luck. It is not supported and after a very frustrating teck chat there is not support other than spending the money to upgrade. Seems beet steep to make us upgrade given lack of support for last number of years. This is on one version back that now is not supported. I know version 9 has not been not touched for years but I think this does not look good for a group that for years was very loyal to the product. The product should have been supported one OS back or given the new upgrade for a very small fee. $89us is the cost of some new complete products. Sorry this is a bit of a rant I am extremely frustrated

Thanks for the extra info, Andrew. Judging from your crash log compared to these type of crashes in other apps and the behaviour you've described this could be related to file permissions not being set correctly.

Could you please check and set the permisssiosn on the MindManager Library files?

Steps (based on: http://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2014/09/10/premiere-pro-cc-freezing-on-startup-or-crashing-while...)
  1. Open Finder
  2. In Finder, click on the Go menu at the top of the screen
  3. Press the option key, keep it pressed and choose Library from the Go menu
  4. You're now in your User Library.
  5. Open the Application Support folder from the User Library
  6. Select both the Mindjet and Mindjet MindManager Folders (if they exist)
  7. Right click and choose Get Info
  8. In the Sharing & Permissions section you see all computer’s users listed. Your User account should say Read & Write next to it.
  9. Unlock the lock, enter log in details, then click and choose > Read & Write (if it is not already set that way).
  10. Click the gear icon directly under the user names and choose “Apply to enclosed items...”
  11. Click the lock once more to save changes

Hi,
I am looking to resolve the issue of Mindjet Manager continually crashing on my Mac.
MindManager 10.6.125 is not working.  What are the next steps?
