Not importing Word document correctly

I spent hours manipulating a Word document into the various Heading styles that MindManager Help says is needed to format an imported .doc into a structured map i.e. "MindManager uses the Heading styles to determine the map topic hierarchy: text in Heading 1 style becomes Main topics, Heading 2 and greater are subtopics"

It doesn't work. All my laboriously achieved formatting was ignored and each line was shown as a separate topic at the same level.

I have used this process many times over the years with different versions of MindManager. Will check it works with 2012.
