outlook sync not working even though open in Microsoft Outlook works fine

When I run sync all I get an error saying one of the items could not be synchronised. I managed to narrow this down to the actual item.

It shows fine and is not crossed out unless I highlight and try to sync just this. At which point it fails, gives me the error and crosses out the item. At this point if I open in outlook the task opens correctly with the information in place. When I close it the MM item how has an unchecked status on sync. If however I try and sync again it fails and we go back through the cycle.

This seems pretty weird. What can I do about this?

I'm having a weird new problem, too. I have maps where, for some Outlook tasks previously added, I can no longer edit task info - and the task information icons have a little grey lock icon on them. For newly-added tasks, changes made to the task due date in MM no longer propagate to Outlook. So, if I change the date in Outlook and then 'sync' in MM, MM updates correctly. But, if I update the date in MM and sync, the task in Outlook isn't updated.
