We use priority icons as a way to allow people to vote on topics using a set amount of points per person, is this something you could use as well?

Icons are a good idea. Two numbered sets of green & red custom icons (e.g. hands) could be used to count votes for or against. Clicking on the icon would increment the vote. However, there is no protection against incorrect use, so the same person could vote many times, or could vote both ways. It would only be suitable for a small trusted group.
