In the past I was able to use a Custom Image for
a topic shape. It was on older versions of MindManager when I did this. I am currently using version 15.

Now when it try the image is squished and distorted. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Aha! The joys and complexities of custom shapes!

The best way to manage images applied to Topics as Custom Shapes is from the Format Topic function, accessed by right clicking the Topic and selecting the Size and Margins tab.

When you do this on a Topic containing a Custom Shape you get a different set of options, one of which is the adjustable box which defines the amount of area the Topic content will devour.

This magic box lets you tell the Topic just how much area should be displayed outside of the bounds of the box.

If you adjust the box so its bounds match that of the image then you are effectively telling MindManager to use the whole image within the Topic content box. If you only have a few words and a single line of text on the Topic the following "squishing" of the image happens.

When testing this you can simply make adjustments and then hit the Apply button to see the effect so you do not have to keep opening the Topic Format window. This helps a lot.

By adjusting the box boundaries you can control and change the amount of "overflow" the Topic content area allows. This in turn allows the image to grow or contract accordingly.

The image above shows the Shape image being "squished" into the confines of the Topic content width while being allowed to "overflow" the top and bottom boundaries.

You can also move the position of the box to place the Topic text in a different area of the image which can create some interesting looking Maps when done well.

It is also worth noting that you can change these settings directly from the Library and when you make a change here it will be applied to the Topic each time you use it. When you change the settings using the Topic Format window, you are simply adjusting that one Topic.

You can also use the Fixed Topic Width function of MAP for MindManager to force the width of Topics containing custom shapes. This is another method which can be quicker in most situations and also keeps the Topic size when the Topic content/text changes in size.

You can learn more about MAP for MindManager and Fixed Topic Width here:

I hope this helps you achieve what it is your trying to do.

I appreciate your reply. I can kind of get it to work but it takes a lot of time and tweaking. I will probably not use it as often as I might because of this.

FYI MindJet this is a major pain the way it works. I would like to see the ability to fine tune and control the size and aspect ratio of the image separate from the text. I hope someone will read this and put it on an enhancement list.
