One thing MindManager lacks is a way to print or export a simple text list of tasks with just four or five columns - just one for the tasks and headings/main topics, and one each for start and due dates, and duration and progress.
This is a particular problem if you are starting with a complex map. If you have a map that is fairly flat without too many levels, main topics or task rollups then exporting to Excel and creating such a task list is fairly straightforward. If however you have a map with multiple levels and in particular if there are rollups and tasks at different levels, things can get very messy. While the task info starts off in the same columns, it is difficult to maintain this if you are trying to collapse the multiple columns with the actual tasks and main topics into a single column. Furthermore there is no way to make such an export directly to Word, as the task info is imported as separate mini-tables below each task heading level.
Ideally task information should be made optionally available in the outline view and it should be easier to export this to either Word or Excel. There is however another starting point, which is the summary table of tasks and task info in the Gantt view - but for some reason it is impossible to print the table without the chart section, and very difficult just to copy and export it.
I have come up with a work-around to achieve the latter, and it produces the ideal simple export which can be copied directly into Excel and into Word, appearing in the latter with tab delimiters between the various columns which are easily converted into a table (I'll describe the process in more detail on my blog). It should however be much easier to achieve this and all it would take would be to amend the existing select and copy commands to provide the facility to highlight, print and/or copy all or part of the Gantt chart table.
