So this basic level of protection seems to be missing in Mindjet mindmanager, while it is a common feature in competing projects. At the file level, it would be a great way to safely store information on shared drives. It could protect information when a file is sent via email. The branch level password protection would allow shared files to have protected information in them. It would be a way to share an appropriate level of detail within a map.

Password protection at Map level is available since MindManager 2002
In MM 15 for windows you go to FILE => INFO => ECRYPT Document than you see the screen for security.

If you want protection on Branche level than consider the way many of your colleague users:
Create a multimap environment using the SEND-TO option ( if you have selected the branche => Right-Click ) where you create a map that you can protect the same way as above.

While it's an interesting thought, I can't say I would agree with the approach that you recommend. Seems it would be better to secure things at a server side, much like MS Project server does for project files there. Anything else like password protecting an individual file or parts of a file sounds like crazytown to me. Murphy's law and the nature of human beings and all of that. The real problem is that shared drives, cloud drives, etc. are not all that secure, either through human error or aggression. We all just use dropbox here, knowing the risk of "the weakest link" that's always gonna be there. One lost/stolen laptop, and it's all over - in just a few clicks! Some sort of future encryption scheme might be an answer however, modeled after email encryption perhaps? Run as a service? Dunno, makes my head hurt to think of all the bad things that could happen...cheers!

Found it, Thank you. I had not looked in that file window option.
Still would like to add a branch level password option as that doesn't quite meet my branch level need. Thank you thought. It was a good idea.

The multimap idea could be viable is mindjet allowed multiple instances of it's program to be open at the same time.

There is another important use for protection, which doesn't necessarily call for high-level encryption: preventing inadvertent alteration of maps and their content. In particular, maps containing formulas need this kind of protection: not every reader will know how to reinstate a map or a formula suddenly returning errors and not every team or organization should be obliged to rely on a cloud-based solution to this.

So my IT department has chimed in. They cannot approve use of mindjet sessions because the encryption is only 128bit, 256bit is their minimum. So using Plus to share files is out. Dropbox will never be approved, so that isn't a way for me to share files. Spideroak is pending approval, and SafeSync is approved, but neither play well with Mindmanager Mobile.I have used Spideroak to open maps, but saving changes isn't happening. Neither are approved to share files, only backing them up, encrypting, and syncing between computers... and allowing for mobile access.
1) Does anyone know the encryption level when a file is saved >file>info>encrypt?
2) Can I open it the mindmanager-encrypted file remotely using the android app?
If they can't open it, or it is less than 256bit, I may be software shopping again :-(
Edit: Added what Spideroak and safesync are used for. Spideroak is my preference, as it provides ZeroKnowledge encryption

1) I thought the encryption was just basic ZIP-based encryption but it looks like Mindjet has implemented some encryption of their own; you're able to open an encrypted map using a standard ZIP-program, but you're unable to view the contents of the document.xml
2) Looks like you'll need to remove encryption from your file before you can use it in your mobile and web clients, see the official response here: https://community.mindjet.com/mindjet/topics/mindjet-encryption?topic-reply-list%5Bsettings%5D%5Bfil...
