Read-only protection not working?

I've just tried to PW protect a map against modification, closed it and selected READ ONLY on re-opening it (i.e without entering the existing, saved password). But I can still modify the map.

What's up? Am I missing something?

Thanks.

This probably has to do with the remember feature of passwords on the same computer:

see Options => alerts and security => clear remembered passwords

Thanks, Ary.

In fact, when I took a look at the Clear All button, it was greyed out, which means that in this case there are no passwords to be cleared - presumably because I didn't ask the machine to remember any of them.

Best wishes,

David

Hi David,

The read-only feature doesn't let the user save over the original file but they can make modifications and save their own variation.

Hi Michael,

Thanks as ever. Presumably I missed this point in the manual. That said, there does seem to be something wrong with PW protection in my setup. Notwithstanding your explanation, I can still save modifications to the original map in Read Only mode, whether or not I have set up Open protection as well.

In Read Only I can also Clear the modification protection PW, which is odd. I would have expected this clearance option to become available only after PW entry, i.e. not in Read Only mode. (As you may have seen from my response to Ary above, I hadn't asked the system to remember any passwords either.)

Best wishes,

David

Hi David,

I have logged Case # 00331445  to track this issue.

I will be glad to give you a call tomorrow morning my time, which would be your evening or can request a member of our Support Team in Germany give you a call during your local business hours.

Before we do that, please answer the following:

1. Are you seeing the same behavior with all Maps?
2. When setting a Modify Password and then opening the Map as Read-Only, are you prompted to choose a new file name after making changes and clicking Save?

Thanks,
-Marian
