Retrieve Tasks via Zapier from any Task Manager (Todoist, Trello, Wunderlist)

Hello, I'm new to MM17. Our company is still in the process of upgrading from 2015, but I wanted to get an early jump.

I want to be able to Import or Sync tasks with external task managers.  I have todoist, but all I can do is take a task from MM17 and export it to Todoist.  What I want to do is pick a project in Todoist and import the current status of all the tasks. Just like we can do with Outlook.

In fact, I'd be happy if this worked with any of these managers.  Trello, Wunderlist.  Tell me which one this works with and I'm there. I was hoping to get away from Outlook tasks, but it looks like this is bringing me back.

Any help is appreciated,

It can be done, but in a more limited form than with Outlook. The nice thing about the Outlook Queries in MindManager is that the Topics that come back from the Outlook Queries are 'active' topics, meaning that if you change the status of a Topic in MindManager it will also update the status of the task etc. in Outlook.

Though the MindManager-Zapier integration is 2-way, it is also a split integration. Meaning that you can create a receiving topic in MindManager for a specific topic which is able to receive information from your favorite task manager via Zapier, but these are not active topics in the way that you can modify them and update information. The other way around works as well, sending information from MindManager to your favorite task manager via Zapier, but then also you will not be able to update existing topics that you've sent to Zapier.

That is what I'm finding out.  I like the Outlook integration and it will be very useful, but I'm not a big fan of Outlook tasks, which is why I've looked into third party.

I don't need them as living as Outlook either, I just need the ability to query status from the 3rd Party so when a task closes there, I can update my sheet to reflect the changes.

Right now, all the Zaps are "Send to" as far as I can see. With Todoist, there is a "Find" function, but no "Get".  What I don't know is where the limitation lies.  Is this Mindjet's, Zapier or Todoist?

I was VERY excited about this when I read about it, however, it would have been much more useful to be able to send info to Mindjet than to simply send it out.  Think about it, we could use Mindjet as the center of everything. It would give us the ability to map our whole lives!

To receive info from Trello etc you HAVE to do this FIRST:

Receive map data in topics from Zapier

For a topic to receive map data using Zapier, you must first set up Zapier, register the topic with the service, and then create a Zap.

Receive a Zap

Note: Zapier is not currently localized. To provide accurate on-screen guidance, text and screen captures that reference Zapier on-screen prompts are in English.

  1. Do one of the following:

On the Tasks tab, in the Send Tasks To group, click the Zapier drop down and select Make Receiving Topic.

    Or

Or on the Advanced tab, in the Zapier group, click the Zapier drop down and select Make Receiving Topic.

  2. When your topic's registration with the server is successful, the Zapier receiver button is attached to the topic, and a confirmation dialog gives you instructions on how to create a Zap.

  3. Click the Don't show this again checkbox to prevent this dialog from popping up every time you make a new receiving topic.
    Read Note

  4. In your Zapier account online, create a Zap using MindManager as the Action app and your topic as the Parent Topic.

  5. On your map, click the topic's Zapier button and select Receive Zaps for This Topic. A progress dialog pops up to confirm receipt from Zapier, and success of the operation.

  6. Subtopics are added to the map with the information from Zapier, marked with a Received from Zapier icon, and listed in the corresponding group in the Elements tab of the Map Index.
    Read Hint

I really struggle with the instruction 4:
In your Zapier account online, create a Zap using MindManager as the Action app and your topic as the Parent Topic.
I cannot "translate" this instruction to what I see available in zapier.com under "Make a Zap!"
Did anyone manage to achieve this?
If so, more detailed instructions would really be appreciated!
THANK YOU

Did you try to create a receiving topic first in MindManager as shown here? http://onlinehelp.mindjet.com/help/Mindmanager/17/EN/receive_map_data_using_zapier.htm?_ga=2.1200854...

Thank you Mathieu - yes, the Zap created my task in Todoist  - so all that is fine.
What I struggle with is  ...MindManager as the Action App and your topic as the Parent Topic ...
In Zapier I can chose MindManager as the Trigger as ZapTopic.
But what would be the next Step/Action?

It should look a bit like this (in this example I add new e-mails to a map):

If there is some interest, I could also create a short YouTube video on how to receive information from other apps into MindManager using Zapier?
