Roundtripping from word - Keep Map Part Topic Templates and Topic properties

Roundtripping from word, using a map that uses a map part with a topic property. Export to Word adds the topic property to the notes as a table row. When import back from Word to create a new version of the map, the topic is created as a normal topic and the topic property becomes a table in the notes. Is there any way to make the importer use the Map Part topic template and create the Topic Property?

Hi Paddy, I had a look at this a year ago in response to a similar question. See the thread here: (scroll down to Keith’s comment).

To summarise the discussion, it seemed impossible to import topic properties as part of importing, or round tripping, from Word with MM2017, and while I’m away from my computer for a few days so I can’t test it again I don’t think the situation has changed in MM2019.

While obviously not as useful as being able to import topic properties as part of a topic, it is quite easy to copy them from Word and paste them into an existing topic without any specific MM formatting. All you need to do is to set up either a two column table in Word with the name of the property in the first cell and the property value in the second - or simply just separate the property name and value with a tab. You can also set up multiple property rows, provided they conform to either the table or tab format. All you then need to do is highlight the block of property rows you have created, switch to MindManager, click on a topic, right click, select Paste and then select Paste Topic Properties.

I haven’t played with this for a while but I think one caveat is there may be some issues around formatting of topic properties, which you would probably have to review after import.
