Saving to Network Drive

Hi.
I recently upgraded to MM 2012 Prof (from MM7.2) and now have the "saving to network shares is slow"-problem. I've read a lot in the (old) forum about it ... seems this issue has never been fixed during the last years. is there any news on this?
If the problem remains, I'm thinking of downgrading to 7.2 again or using an alternative program.
Thanks for any news!

This issue is being addressed in the 10.1 release that is expected to come out at the end of the month.

Thanks for the quick reply. As I tend to save my work quite frequently, this is a really annoying bug. Is there a mailing list or anything the like that I can subscribe to to receive information when the update is being distributed?

Does this new release address the fact that it appears that the current release of Mindjet does not sync with Outlook 2012 - 32 bit. Furthermore, there are a wide vareity of connection issues.

Please advise.

Thank you for you feedback Jerry. Could you explain in a little more detail what kind of connectivity issues you are experiencing as well as what happens when you try to sync tasks? I would like to better understand what is going on so that I can best assist you.

If you take a task in the mindmap, send it to Outlook, it does not work. Mindjet suggests restarting the program or "repairing" the program. After trying both, including a clean install, it still does not work.

What is very frustrating is that this was "sort of working" in the previous edition. The promise in Mindjet 2012 was a fully functional sync with Outlook both from Mindjet and to Mindjet.

Instead, it just does not work.

I've been through the forum and thorugh google search and see this problem has been reported repeated times.

Is there a solution set or should I tell myself and my clients not to bother with feature?

I've installed the 10.1 update a while ago now (my current version says "10.1.459 2012-02-27"). The problem is somewhat alleviated but still there. This is really annoying! I'm sorry, but I can't believe you're not able to solve that issue. Any other application I use (except the Windows command line) can handle files on network shares without sleeping several seconds.

I'll use Freemind for a while now and see where that gets me. Have fun with your application!

PS: You should remove the "solved" tag here.

Sigh. Looks like I'll need to look elsewhere.

Can you reproduce the error?
FYI: I start MM by clicking on a mmap file in the network (stored in a place like \\server\path1\path2\file.mmap). That works as fast as expected. When I save the file, MM hangs for exactly 30 seconds. It seems to me there is some timeout it waits for. I tried this with different mmap files, and it doesn't matter wether I use the file menu, the titlebar icon or Ctrl+S. The behaviour is always the same
I can also connect the network path to a drive letter (so that the file is accessed via x:\path2\file.mmap and x: maps to \\server\path1) - same behaviour.
I use Win7 64bit if that helps you. I don't know the server OS, but it's a raid system (which is, besides the automatic backup, a major reason for me to store my files there) that I guess runs a Windows Server. As said before, I have no problem accessing files on the network with other applications. And as long as I used MM 7.2, the problem was not there.

We just downloaded, tried (and bought) MM 2012. Die "Save to Network Drive" Bug seems to be still there - which is really pretty annoying. It took about 1 minute to save a file (which I - would otherwise - do often). I got a registry key from the MindJet support - entering that brought the save time down to approx. 10 seconds - blocking the UI of course. So I consider this issue as still open. Save time should be a portion of a second, just as on local drives...

Mindjet has introduced a workaround to address delays seen in saving to a network drive in MindManager 10.1.459 or later. This workaround is only recommended for users that do not utilize Microsoft SharePoint DMS or WebDAV for storage.

To implement the workaround:

While logged in as Administrator

1. Start Menu > Run/Open > Regedit

2. Within Regedit, Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mindjet\MindManager\10\Settings\EnableDmsSupport

3. Edit EnableDmsSupport (REG_DWORD) and change the "Value data" to 0 and click OK.

4. File > Exit

5. Close and Reopen MindManager for the changes to take effect.

Please note: After implementing this workaround, DMS will be disabled and you will not be able to use webDAV or SharePoint Check Out/Check In functionality when accessing a file in MindManager. To directly access a file in SharePoint or WebDAV in MindManager you will need to map a drive to the full UNC (\\ComputerName\SharedFolder\...) which will allow you to Open and Save files to that location without SharePoint DMS or WebDAV functionality.

Thanks, that solves my issue.
I never used WebDAV or SharePoint with MindManager.

Ok, I tried this again using the latest version (11.1) and it seems to work. Too bad this comes too little, too late WRT earlier versions (specifically, versions 8 and 9) that remain affected by the bug. We held off on upgrading given the new pricing model which is totally unacceptable to our organization. I am now stuck with a non-working version 9. That's just great.

It is helpful to have a workaround.

However, are there steps in place to deal with the quality issues that are being raised through the site.

IMAP and failure to synch to Outlook
Inability to save files
Challenges collaboration online through the portal
etc.

Where can one fine the bug track log to see what progress is being made?

I fear the work arounds fail to address the core issues that keep coming up.

Thanks again for the workaround. Now I have the next problem ... :(
On startup (just starting the application from Win7 taskbar without any document), MindManager is not responding for a minute or so (feels like ages), before I can use it. Loading documents is then fast again. I've de-activated some of the plugins (e.g. the MindManager Explorer for SharePoint) – let's see if this solves the issue ...

I'm really missing MM 7.2. I've colleaguse who told me they don't use MM 2012 any longer because it's not working properly on their machines ... hangs, takes ages and so on. Can you please release a major bugfix? Thanks.

Is there any update on plans to provide a fix rather than a work around for this issue?

The workaround posted earlier is confusing to me, as the keys that are referenced simply don't exist in my machine's registry (there is only a "MyMaps" sub-folder under the "10" folder, no "Settings"). I am also waiting for a major fix that was promised for the next version of MM.

The problem is still there in the latest version. I've lost all hope, and the new licensing model is the last drop. I am advising my employer to stop buying Mindjet and shop for an alternative.

Marc, above it looks like the problem was resolved for you. Was this not the case? In 11.1, if you go to Mindjet's File Options, under the open and save tab, make sure the option in the 'Opening SharePoint Files' remains unchecked. This should treat your network files like local files.

There is a new option in Mindjet 11.1 for Windows. Try going to File>Options>Open and then Save. Please let us know if this works for you. I hope that it helps. Thank you all for your feedback and patience.

Any map opened or saved on a Windows share still freezes during a save operation. No option in 11.1 makes any difference.

It's quite simple here, really. All we want is the software to behave with files available over the LAN exactly the same as with local files. This problem does not occur with any other software that I use or have used in the past. MindManager is the ONLY one that has ever exhibited this behavior.

See m,y comment above WRT to the earlier registry fix. I'll give your support team that, it works. Too little, too late however, given other bugs and a new pricing model that isn't in line with today's market.

To me it appears as if Mindjet does not really care about their customers using MindManager. There are some very basic tasks that are somewhat broken in MindManager, the one in this topic being open since many years.

Where is the link to the forum on the Mindjet homepage? I can follow your "news" on twitter and that stuff, but that's a one-way communication road only. To me the message is clear: No feedback wanted here, and we don't want potential new users to find out about the drawbacks of our software.

I totally agree with Marc here: The new licensing model is the last drop. Why should I pay monthly for a tool I can't use properly? I will not buy a new version of Mindmanager, and I will advise others not to do so.

Sorry, Mindjet, you had your chance. Haven't used it at all.
