Hi there,

is there a nice solution for our company to share a main mindmap template, that is stored on a network drive?

Ideal would to have this template integrated the standard in file --> new from template.

I tried the Template Organizer, but it is only configurable for the local templates folder. Is there a way to manipulate this folder???

Hello David

You can create a new Package Folder to contain new template maps, which can then be managed through the Template Organizer. New maps can be started from the Template Organizer as well. Package Folders are added through the MindManager Options dialogue.

However in MindManager 2012, templates must still be manually added to the favourites gallery displayed by File > New. So each of you can still add a template on a network drive direct to this gallery on your individual PCs. There is a link at the top right of the File > New gallery for doing this.

Hi Nick,

thanks for your reply!

Is it also possible to distribute templates from Mindjet Connect and assign everybody as account member?

Unfortunately I don't think there is a feature to start a new map from a template map stored on Connect, or to start a new map from an existing map on Connect. "New from existing" only browses for local maps. So while Connect could be used to distribute templates for download and local storage, this would be a bit cumbersome.

If I am wrong about this I would be glad to be put right. But if not, it would be worth suggesting the extension of Package Folders to include Mindjet Connect locations. Then Connect could be used to share all kinds of resources, not just templates.

Another thought... you could set up a Dropbox folder as a Package Folder, then sign up colleagues for this Dropbox folder instead. This should work just fine and would let you share common icons, logos, map parts and map marker sets as well as templates.

Dropbox is a nice idea :-)

I just tried it and the feature is nice, I have just 2 things I cannot figure out:

1) If I assign the dropbox template and use this once, MindManager will kame a local copy of this, so changes in the Dropbox file will have no impact for this user

2) How do I assign the map marker sets to a new map? I connected it through the package foulder but I do not were to bind it!?

Thanks a lot for your support!!

Yes, this is a "challenging" characteristic of the way that New from Template works :-( It would be clearer if the link was named "Copy Template into gallery", instead of "Add Template...".

To use a dynamically updated source, ensure that the Dropbox folder is added as a Package Folder, then use the Template Organizer in the Design tab. Click Design Tab > Template Organizer > Map Templates. Browse to the required template, select it and click the "New Map" button at the bottom right. If the template has been updated, you will get the latest version. This dialogue is a bit trickier to use than the New map gallery in the File tab, but the extra clicks are worth it.

To assign a map marker set to a map, follow the steps above but for Marker Lists instead, and click "Apply". If you now save this map as a template, it will have these map markers in it from the start. A template map already contains a set of map markers.
