Strange occurrences 1: map crashes on sorting

Recently I imported a table with main topics that started with a mix of real numbers and numbers as text, for example, 1, 1a, 1b, 2, 3, 3a, 3b, etc. As a result the topics were imported out of sequence, for example 11 came before 1a and so on. I thought I would fix this by adding a leading zero to all numbers under 10 so I had 01, 01a, 01b etc, and then sorting the map. When I tried to sort however MM crashed comprehensively, and did so every tine I repeated this.

I implemented a work around which was to sort the topics and concatenate the numbers with the actual text so that the numbers were all converted to text before I imported (which preserved the correct sort order) but I was curious whether anyone else has experienced this.

I tried to replicate this, but is seems that however I mix up the topics in the attached map the topics will come out in the right sorting (1,2, 11) even without adding leading zeros?

Would you have a copy of your  map available, maybe I'm missing something?

Thanks Mathieu for having a look at this.

Unfortunately I can't provide the original map a) because I've modified it and b) some of the information was confidential.

It may be that the problem arose because the map was imported from Excel. I'll try to replicate the problem when I have a chance over the next few days.
