Support multiple instances or windows of mindmanager open simultaneously

This would be an ideal setup for a system with multiple  monitors.  Presently it is a serious handicap to the program (I am on vs 14.3.192) that only one instance (window with Ribbon) can be open at any one time. Yes, there can be multiple windows open WITHIN mindmanager, however, those of us that may need to reference and edit multiple maps at one time would benefit from being able to open separate instances of the program with it's own editing ribbon. A further benefit could be to allow one screen to be in presentation mode, full screen, with a second screen able to have a separate instance and map open and editable. The present ability to stretch the app across the two screens is not a viable solution because there is only one editing ribbon and screens are of different sizes. Also, the web is not a viable solution as most maps use have formulas.

I just tried to do this, as I would often do w/ excel, to copy data between two instances. I was surprised I couldn't open two copies of the app to work on two concurrent files.

I like the behaviour of certain office apps and even something like Google Chrome whereby the task-bar icon allows recent docs to open to the main instance of the program but that if you invoke the command in a certain way, right-click followed by left-click on the app-icon in the sub-menu, it would open a brand-new instance.

I too vote for this.  The whole idea of confining multiple windows within a single per-application window is simply lame design from the dark ages of UX that should be relegated to the past.  Microsoft realized the error of their ways within Office and allows me to create multiple independent windows to work with multiple documents - MindManager must do the same.

This is a necessary UPDATE (not upgrade...), as the current OS X version is capable of running multiple windows. I prefer the Windows version, however. In my current mind-map use-application, I have a "reference map" opened on the OS X, while my "working map" is utilized on the Windows 10 VM. This is not an option for everyone and should be a call to action for Mindjet, as a product update.

Microsoft stopped the ability to have two (or more) instances of office products. I really needed multiple .xls opened in different windows and found this "trick" on the web.
create a bat file that contains:
 "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE" %1
Then associate .xls with that bat file
works for all of the office extensions (diff bat file for word, ppt, xls

Might work for .mmap as well just no time to try.

This feature is in Mindmanager 16, but crippled. One map is always dimmed. Cannot understand the logic. fortunatelly, I kept version 15, this way I can open two files. One under vesion 15 and one under 16. Anyway, so far I cannot see any major advantages for me in the version 16 over 15. Wasted money, at least I have now two apps and possibility to open two maps simultaneously...:-(. As for update from version 14 to 15, the biggest update for me was, that finally "send task to Outlook" started to work without crashing Mindjet. Looking for some alternative to Mindmanager nowadays....

Thanks for your feedback on the detached window. There was some confusion reported early in the design and development process when we did not dim the map. We opted this route to highlight which window has the focus at any given point in time. Based on your feedback it sounds like the solution could be improved...We'll be looking into ways to make it better.

Is there anyway to allow MM 15 and MM 16 to run simultaneously and to allow cut and paste between (not just pasting a hyperlink)? That would solve the problem for power users. Now the only kludge is to drag into a map part in MM 15, then drag the map part into a map part in MM 16, then drag into the map.

I have now used the detach tab functionality a while.

The un-active window is dimmed. The level of the dimming is to much. It is difficult to read the un-acitve window.

The detached tab doesn ́t have any meny bar. This makes it very difficult to work on the detached window when it is displayed on the other screen/projector. It seems this desig is taken from Mac.
All Office program windows, or Acrobat, have a menu bar on every window.
Why not that solution in MM?

Hi Everyone,

MindManager 2016.1 (Service Pack 1) is now available and in this release, we have removed the dimming from the detached tabs that are not in focus. When using detached tabs, the map tab name text will turn to blue to indicate which map is in focus.

The Ribbon menu is still only available on the main instance of MindManager and we are continuing to look into options to make the user experience even better.
