Transfer Child's Connections to Parent

I'm trying to build a Tree with cross-connections to external elements.
If the children of a node are hidden, however, I'd like the connections to be directly transferred to the parent.

In the example, we have three layers: Countries, Authors and Works.
- Anna has read Harry Potter I.
- If we hide the nodes of the Works layer (or the children of J. K. Rowling), Anna's connection should be automatically transferred to the Author J. K. Rowlling.
- Then, if we hide the nodes of the Authors layer (or the children of England), Anna's connection should be automatically transferred to the country England.

Can somebody help me find or develop a feature that allows that?

That's a job for Nick Duffill.
You can find him in the forum. Search for his name

Suggestion: consider the use of tags and the tag view. They are ideal for your type of application..
Note although you mention MM vs 2012 for windows I expect you have MM2020 and Mac vs 13. If not, do upgrade

The closest I can get is to work with tags and filters. See map attached and use the saved filters.

I like Tom's approach with the filters. So  I rebuilt your map and added three types of markers in the Map-Index: Countries (icons), Authors (Tag) and Readers (Tag).
If you switch to icon-view you'll see authors sorted by country.
In the tag-view you see the book sorted by the authors or the whos has read which book

Tom's solution with tags and filters is really great, but unfortunatelly involves a lot of human work and human mistake is very likely there the way it is.

Could there be any possibility to automate this process?
