Unable to open file from Shared Drive

Have an excel file on a local network share drive (mapped to "M").  I can link to the shared drive location and view it in the browser window in MindManager 16.  However when I click on the file to open it, I get an error "Files from this website are not allowed to run on your computer.  This is not a trusted website."  Problem is this is not a website although it does use the file:\\\ URL.  Of note I CAN open it through the other options like open in Explorer.  Any way to overcome this?

Although this article refers to Windows 7, the Network & Sharing Center is similar on later versions. Make sure that UNC network paths are included in the local intranet zone.

Nick, thank you very much for a good path.  However, that didn't fix the problem.  it seems like windows OS problem but we messed around with GPOs to set the UNC Network path as included in local intranet zone.  Same problem exists.  Any other possible thoughts?

No sorry, not at the moment. ExpertsExchange could be a good place to search.
