Why is my map file size so large?

I have a mindmap, generated from another application (Margin3), that is 23MB large.  It has not attachments, the images are 60 to 100KB and there are only 15 of them, and I have no customer icons, etc.  I do have a fair number of links back to the other applications, and some to YouTube, but I assume those do not add much to the file size.

In Margin3 I do have attachments and video files, but they did not seem to go with the export... but given the size of the mindmap, I wonder if they are hidden somewhere still...

Is there anyway to analyses all parts and their size of a map?  Even if it requires exporting it somehow into another tool that will let me see what is in there and what the file sizes might be?

Thanks

Please show us in a video, showing HOW you generate a mindmanager map from your Margin3 app.

Hi Grant,

MindManager is not affiliated with Margin Note and we cannot provide support on their ability to export to our format. In this case I would guess that the Margin Note export is not functioning correctly as what you have described should not result in such a large file.

Thanks.  Sure, I was not expecting to solve the Margin Note problem, but wanted to know if there where tools that let a user look at the properties of all the images and attachments or other things that can be inserted, in the file,   something like the attachment manager but more extensive.

Hi Grant,

Yes if you open the map index and switch to "Elements" view you can see everything in the map including attached files and images:

Thanks, I had not found the Index yet... that helps!   By clicking around, I found out that the notes sections contained the full size much larger images - I had been saving and looking at the size of the icons of the images that Margin Notes added in.

Still, I would like to be able to see the properties of the included attachments, images, etc.   Right now I have to save the image and look at the file size, etc.

Same goes for editing - It seems important to be able to edit images, etc from out of MindManager and save them back

Hi Grant,

Thanks for the suggestions on reading image properties. One thing you can try now to reduce the file size of your map is using our Compress Images feature. In MindManager, go to File>Info and select 'Compress All Images for Web'.

I hope this helps.

Best,
-Marian
